Dell's onboard soundcards are very noisy (onboard soundcards are noisy almost by design, so it's not really Dell or Analog Devices' fault).

When the sound card is _not_ in use, the system turns off the headphone amplifier, so you don't hear the noise.

When winamp starts and opens the soundcard, the system turns on the headphone amplifier and you hear the hissssssssss.

Nothing winamp can do about it. I just know this info because I've spent waaaay too long with soundcard driver =)

EDIT: just noticed you said that there were no problems with WMP. Try muting your inputs in the windows volume control program.
