Cascade2, I'd say that you're the one that needs to calm down.
If anyone at Nullsoft, or anyone in the forum, is getting tired of people bitching about WA3 not baing done, TOUGH! They brought it on themselves by posting things in Winamp 3 Beta News like 'Winamp 3 IS HERE' and 'It'll make a great x-mas gift' If it's not done till it's done, then don't get ppl all hyped up with messages saying 'almost there!'... you think I like checking back EVERY DAY to see if there is even an update to the (not) weekly status??? sheesh... |

I know. Winamp 3 is taking long enough w/o them saying stuff like
"ooh, we want to tell you how cool this shiznit is gonna be and we wanna show screenshots and upload beta versions...but we CAN'T! YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOREVER YOU LITTLE TOOL! HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!!!!" Maybe if they keep Justin away from the computer, it'll go faster 'cause we all know the mantra: Justin CAN'T code! -Nate |

OK I have mized views and opinions but here they are.
I agree that Nullsoft brought it on themselves by saying "with that in mind it just might make a good Xmas present." Never claim something will be out for christmas and then not have it ready. Very disapointed people after it. Anyone remember the Brood War Exp. for SC was going to come out for Christmas and never did. I was mad!!! Yet view number to is people have to remember that this program is free and that bitching about the release date won't solve a thing. Think about it. If you were designing something and you couldn't quite finish it in time would people bitching about it being late help you to get it out. Give the guys at Nullsoft a break. After all Winamp 2.x is the top rated Mp3 Program on the market AND ITS FREE |

Completely agree with everything Drake_2 said. Nullsoft did bring it on themselves by implying a delivery date they clearly couldn't keep and not one they couldn't keep by a few days but by weeks. Maybe they overestimated their own abilities.
But having said that it is free and myself personally i'm not overly worried when it comes out. My Winamp spends most of its life as a icon in the system tray so all this playlist stuff and free form skinning is only of minor interest to me. God bless them for putting all this in but really people, its just an mp3 player. Some people are going to be seriously disappointed, wait for the bitching then! lol. |

You people really need to find more life or death topics to bitch about. Last I knew no one died due to a lack of release of anything, 'cept maybe bodily fluids.

![]() You guys don't know the real story. We weren't trying to be secretive just to be dicks. I also honestly thought we'd be able to release something around Christmas. What was that? I talked about being able to release something, not whether it was ready to release... hmm... significant? Ya think? Anyway, now that we're clear to release, we're just going through that 2-3 week period any project requires to be polished up to the point where other people can install and use it. No, Winamp 3 is not done. It may never be "done". This will just be the first alpha test release. There will be zillions of test releases after, and then betas once we get a developer SDK together, then normal releases after that. (And someday, god forbid, 4.0) Gawd, I hate being all secretive and shit. We're going to get our work to you ASAP. Also, Justin is no longer a coder on the project at this point. He's told me he is bored of client programming, so he's serving as, um, "creative consultant"(?) while he pursues other programming prospects. But he did write the original version of the playback core, and did some valuable work on the skinned popup menus. --Brennan |

Yeah, probably will be like 2 new features I won't ever use. 3.0 will fix like 4-5 bugs and add 9-10 more due to added features.
This is gonna hurt, I'm more interested in the Sonique 2 release. On a lighter note, has anyone seen a company that has EVER released on schedule? Maybe they just use a programmer calender, if release = today then delay

Make that two people. Sonique is garbage. If you're desperate for a new player, use k-jofol [http://www.kjofol.org/] (if you need a lot of features) or Freeamp [http://www.freeamp.org/](if you don't)

Why Sonique, basically the promises to clean up the playlist, which is why I like Winamp about the same. Something like "a playlist that won't suck" is mentioned. In the next version.
I don't consider it really any worse a player than Winamp, doesn't load slow for me, no crashing or doesn't confuse me. Just the playlist sucks. It being garbage is a bit much, it's growing popularity is a call for Winamp to do something. We Need the competition so they both work their asses off and produce something better every time. Basically. (looks like Homestead killed my signature pic) |

Playlists aren't the only difference between Winamp and Loseamp. 'Sides, I don't consider them competition, just a stepstool.

It's worth noting that I'm also working on a lot of the things that Winamp 3 will need that aren't tied to it. I.e. AVS, NSIS, common network code, etc.

What, exactly, could WA3 POSSIBLY do to make it worth all this hype???
I'm using Winamp 2.72, just like the rest of you I expect. (Thanks for the RH song, by the way.) WA2x is a brilliant music player. It plays every music file imaginable, and even some videos, it's compact, it's easy to use, it's just about the most unobtrusive program I own (c/f RealPlayer, for example...), it's very skinnable, it's fast, it's free, and it's stable and does what you want. (I have gotten it to crash occasionally, but then I do overload my system far more than is remotely sensible.) Anyway, to stop the rambling: Winamp 2.x is GREAT. It works FINE. Winamp 3 won't improve on very much, because there's very little left to improve! Sorry to break it to you, guys, but Winamp 3 will be a MUSIC PLAYER. Just like Winamp 2. It's NOT going to deliver your pizza or train you in assassination! |

If I even hear the words "Winamp 3" again (other than "Winamp 3 has been released!") I'm gonna go nuts! Look, Winamp 3 is going to be a music player just like anything else. It'll look a little different and FINALLY have a skin editor packaged with it and have a few other goodies, but after 10 minutes, you'll all be bored with the glitzy crap and WA3 will settle its way right into your daily life unnoticed. If you're that damn bored, learn a programming language and build your own MP3 player, like I did in Visual Basic! (It's called aMP3, if you want an early beta copy email me, but be warned it sucks ass and probably will even after it's finished. It has a cool logo though.) Just my 6.02x10^23 pesos worth. (approximate USD value: $0.02)
