Questions, skin reviewer please read...

I was thinking last night about some skins I would like to make, I don't know if a skin has been made on American History X or not but I wanted to make one, and in order to do that I kind of need to put those german signs on it or it doesn't really explain the movie very well, hoever i know some peple get highly offended by that sort of thing and I was wondering if it would be a waste of time to do that, if thats "objectionable content" or just a belief that is followed. If it's a waste of time let me know, and I'll scrap the project without wasteing any time. Thanks guys.

[EDIT]
found one: http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...ponentId=69024 -- skinner skin, not very good, doesn't explain the movie...but I don't wanna break any rules without asking if its bad to add the Nazi sign to a skin. If you haven't seen the movie it's about a teenager whose brother was incarcerated for killing 2 african americans for trying to break in his car, he killed them both quite excessivley because he was a skin-head so they send him to jail for voluntary manslaughter, anyway he gets out of jail and his younger brother is following in his footsteps, he tries to get his brother out of that groove, and thats the movie, but it's filled with Nazi things and pretty much is a one-sided story of Nazi's....so it's necessary for the skin...anyway lemme know..

Nazi symbols are offensive to a lot of people, and will NOT be allowed on the winamp site.

Odd. When browsing the forum, the topic of this skin was blank for some reason, so there was a big white box in the Winamp site, forcing me to click "Go to First New Post" to read this.

Yes, the Swatstika flag is offensive to many people, because putting it on a Winamp skin is like promoting anti-Semitism.

I've seen american History X, great movie, and I think it should deserve a good skin and also think that you could make a great skin about it, without having to use any swastikas. just use the images from the poster, the pic of edward norton, with his right hand covering his swastika tatoo is distinctive enough for people to recognise, even if you remove the tatoo completely.

The swastika meant good luck before the nazi's used it on their flag.

It's a pity that some people get influenced by the use other people make of some things. The swastika is a perfect example, it was just an ancient symbol (http://www.luckymojo.com/swastika.html), and then, because some undesirable [is this word used for people?] people used it... well, you know. The same happens with music, people go so far as to hate some music not because they don't like it, but because the political/ethical opinions of the group/singer/composer... it's a shame.

However, I must admit I thought that Whirling Illusion could be rejected because some of the whirls (especially those behind the playlist stacks) resemble a swastika... It still hasn't been published in winamp.com, so it might still be rejected, I hope that doesn't happen

I always thought it was a mirrored version of the goodluck symbol. Oh well...

Looking at the poster, I think that conveys far more emotion and meaning than a swastika would. A swastika is so obvious and blatant, whereas that requires more attention.

make a(nother) matrix skin! talking of which, nini, have you made better numbers for your matrix skin (it is yours, right?)

swordfish is a fantastisc film. I have the dvd. I haven't searched, but what about a pulp fiction skin, it would be REALLY hard, and it would need a very good skinner to do it justice, but it would be possible.

back to swastikas... if you take its mirror image, its a native american symbol. a school near me had the symbol tiled on the floor, but during the forties, it was carpeted over. they recently took the carpeting off and people threw a fit.
so i guess you could say leave it to the nazi's to ruin two perfectly good symbols.

[spontaneous off topic rant] I hate it how people have begun to equate the mass of Nazi ideology and the mass of Nazi inflicted damage with anti-Semtism! Jews were just a part of those targeted by the Nazis. On Hitler's scale of humanity (where Aryans were at the top), Jews were on the bottom together with Gypsies (the Roma people) and Blacks, followed by Slavs, Czechs (even though they are Slavs),Latinos, etc.. Far more Slavs died in the concentration camps than did Jews, and almost as many Gypsies. Yet while almost no one remembers about all those Gypsies, the Jews have now even got their own word - anti-semitism - almost as if racism towards Jews was different or worse than any other kind of racism. And it's a stupid word anyway, as "Semitic" refers to a broad ethnic group, of which both Jews and Arabs are members. So, actually, many Isreali Jews could be called anti-semitic.

Sorry for the totally unexpected outburst here, but the most sacred truth about possibly the most horrific part of history is that we do not forget it, and that we do not distort it. Yet the way it is now heading, with more and more people taking their knowledge of those events predominantly from sources like Hollywood, the perception of the second world war by mainstream society is going to be totally skewed in just one more generation. It deeply disturbs me when I read seemingly innocent misportrayals of the truth like the one above. Not having a go at you, Cleanup, but I am saying: please realise that the Jews were only one part of the Second World War. There were many other parts that are becoming more and more forgotten with every time that someone writes something like what you wrote.

anyway, the swastika ("mirrored" or "unmirrored") was used in many cultures, but as far as I'm concerned, it's not really a Nazi symbol unless it's black, in a white circle on a red background.
As a Pole, I find it kind of almost amusing how so many Westerners get so touchy about the swastika, yet the Communist hammer-and-sickle is now so fashionable, appearing on TV ads, t-shirts, drink bottles, etc. The Communists (in the Lenin/Stalin eras) were just as bad as the Nazis, had a similar agenda, were responsible for a comparable number of atrocities (including genocidal ones), and ultimately a comparable number of murders.

I find the hammer and sickle at least as offensive as the swastika, actually. I even punched a guy in the face as a result of him wearing one a hammer and sickle on his (furry, Russian-style) hat once (and I'm not usually a violent person). Nowadays I have a much milder reaction to it, realising that many people don't realise the extent of what it represents, probably associating it with James Bond movies more than anything else. Incidentally, it has been allowed onto Winamp.com at least once, and I doubt many of the staff, if any, would see any harm in that, even if they would see something wrong about including a swastika.
