Skin proposal: Quad (maybe)

Ok guys, this might be my next skin but not sure yet heh.
The shape was totally inspired by the rio riot
http://www.sonicblue.com/audio/rio/rio_riot.asp
and now I dunno if its too inspired or not thats why I want you lot to decide.
This is the START, as you can see noe buttons yet, so alot is still to come.
Let me know what you think, I appreciate your feedback =)

i love the design, it looks excellent and it's not too similar as the player you inspired so i would say go for it.

i am very very impressed by the quality of graphics, and if you could apply the same style to a, say, more interesting (to me anyway) shape, i'd love to use it. as it is, i'm kind of getting tired of the mm3d/jupiter esque skins. i realize that the only similarity is really the general shape, but personally i'm kind of tired of it. it also seems like that shape in general seems to lend itself to wasted space.

but the graphics are sweet

Up until now, I was of the same mindset as PhotoFX, I mean, there are a lot of "handheld" skins, they're starting to lose their appeal(Not criticizing anyone, I made one too.) But wow, this is looking amazing, especially now that you are adding more functionality to it so we can get a feel for where everything will be. Top-notch work!
~FrisbeeMonkey
PS. So when will your tutorials show how to make graphics this good? I've definitely gained a lot from them, but stuff like this just reminds me I still have a lot to learn.

yup, I see what you guys are saying and agree to a point.

Although I still like this type of skin and I usually create the type of skin that appeals to me and hope others like it too.
I eventually will get bored and move on like you two but I want to try everything...

I also find trying to make skins look like audio players enjoyable and could spend hours on it. Anyhow i'll wait and see what kind of response I get before coding this one.

As for tutorials, its kinda hard to write tutorials for this stuff since its alot of steps.. but i do try =)
cheers for the comments, feel free to keep em coming.

I said up until now I was tired of handhelds. This skin is incredible, I like it a lot. And it definitely manages to combine aesthetics and functionality without sacrificing much of either. I just wanted to clarify that. I'd definitely like to see this realized.
And regarding the tutorials, yeah, I was just teasing. They are so very helpful, thank you for them. I am sure I speak for many others when I say your efforts are really appreciated.

in matter of shapes i agree with PhotoFx, but in matter of beauty this looks great.

but i;m pretty sure that you have really mastered this style of portable mp3 players design

and that's why maybe it's good to start making skins which are more non-mmd3 or mercury and d-shock similar with style.

these are constructive comments robouk, please don't get me wrong, cause there's no doubt that you have mad skillz

oh and the buttons are similar to d-shock

I like the second screen shot. I don't think I'd use this one to much, it just isn't my type of skin, but you should go for it. I'm sure there are lots of people that would like this style.
I do enjoy the vis and the position bar quite a bit. Maybe if you could include a seperate background with a different look to it there would be more appeal to me.

Oh, and I think Vica ment DMP all the way up there.

This seems nice, but why do you have two crossfade buttons on the right side?

Oops... I ment "DMP". The skin definately seems to be shaping up nicely. One thing I'd change is the glow on the shuff/rep/cross/power buttons. The slight bevel you have underneat should be good enough. Maybe the glow can be used for the "active" buttons states.

Peace

nice start, but i think the part where the lcd screens sits on the body is a little too blurred. redefine it possibly? otherwise quite smooth

I appreciate everyones feedback, thanks alot.

Alot of you said you are getting bored the of portable mp3 player, so I would just like to know what kind of skins are your favourite then?

I think portable mp3 player design is a source of inspiration for many skinners.Nothing prevents from copying a portable mp3 player. Exemple: boom, sakura, and now the quad are portable mp3 player with smalls modifications. And the results are so great

i like metal skins mainly, but pref. not symmetrical in shape like these mp3 player skins. something alien-ish/futuristic is good

i agree with peace maker about one thing: the shape not to be symetrical, to be more random, or something like that...

well to be honest my favorite design(s) so far are the yet unfinished sakura and it's little sibling iflex. what i'm currently runnign is Zygote, but i havn't been through the skins section in a while.

i too am a fan of "dockable" skins, like one of the minimodes of zygote, it if would stay in the same place! so there you go non-symetric is usually pretty cool.

you know what skins i like, are the ones that stay flat. i dunno what it is about them but something like that 5th pixel skin that was on the board like a week or 2 ago, i really like.
People seem to make free form go hand in hand with pretending there is some sort of object on the screen...
I would love to see you turn out a really cool flat skin. Your skills are quite impressive, and i bet you could turn out something great.

But don't give up on this skin, it looks really cool too.

I like skins that are out of the ordinary, or something that serves a real purpose, such as corner amp. I'd like to see someone add small games to the interface, maybe a breakout style game.

I liked that media-box skin, it made a great second wallpaper, but with no way to easily minimise it, it got annoying real quick.

I also enjoy good looks, something this skin has a lot of. Where are you at with equilizer, playlist and a such? I think it would be cool if they slid out from those what look like 'grips' on the 'handles' there, or maybe docked in those grooves above and/or below the skin.

please code this up quick. i want i want.
edit: why are there two crossfade buttons? and please do some smoothing on the edges. actually, every line in this skin seems to have a little jagginess to it, but that's just a minor detail. great job

I think this look awesome. I actually prefer symetrical skins. They go better with my LS themes. But I have a liking for the weird ones too.

Robouk this is very sweet. You should definetly finish it out. I'd like to see what kind of stick mode your'd come up with for this.

/sigh I know I ask for stick modes in almost all my posts. Sorry /

I think the buttons don't match the general theme of the skin. Maybe they should be a litle bit darker.

Perhaps, a "glass reflexion effect" on buttons should make the skin more realistic (my opinion).
