the sonic boom

Added traditional equalizer either on the card or hardware can cause distortion on the amplifier ~
But now, like Jriver this player can use the FIR equalizer graphic equalizer effectively avoid the distortion ~
Say that equalizer resulted the sonic boom?

Designers, whether winamp be able to adds a normalization tool or FIR equalizer?

if you use replaygain you can prevent clipping.

I uesed to play tak、tta、ape、alac with cue player in winamp, and use "apply gain/prevent clipping".

That is,those file have no tag of replay gain, like this:
replaygain_track_gain : -12.03 dB
replaygain_track_peak : 0.999938965
winamp use "adjustment for files without replay gain: -6.0dB",
Is this right?

Until the time that I found my Laptop sound card:

When I post at a Forum, they recommended BT Equalizer or BBE Sound Sonic Sweet VST/RTAS "High Definition" enhance the sound quality.

for the moment forget plugins and DSPs. if you want to protect your equipment and get similar sound levels, run replaygain on all your files so the values are in the tags, then enable it for playback in winamp prefs, so it applies the gain and prevents clipping.

Hi Tohno_Neil,

The old "CUE Player" plug-in (released in 2004) is not completely compatible with the current Winamp (and current Windows) version. Try (other ways) to contact the person(s) who made it and ask for an update. The Winamp Replay Gain, DSP, and equalizer features are what they are and will not be changed, or added to, in the near future.

1. Turn off (disable) the Winamp Replay Gain, DSP, and equalizer features. Only use your external utilities to enhance sound. Any distortion is then due to these utilities and/or is contained in the source files themselves.

2. If you want to use the volume leveling that Winamp's Replay Gain feature provides and you don't want the default - 6.0 dB adjustment made for files without Replay Gain tags, then move the slider so that the adjustment is 0 dB (or whatever you want to use within the available range).

There is no magic to sound enhancement. You can not add any sound frequencies to a file that are not already in the file. You can only try to increase or decrease the effects of those that are already there. You can only 'fix' a badly encoded file up to a point, by trying to remove frequencies in the file (with band pass filters) or by adjusting their relative output volume levels.

Some software tools are better at making these adjustments than others. A good thing about Winamp is that it does not prevent the use of these tools. Some tools can even be added directly to Winamp with the help of fully compatible plug-ins.

There is no single, or best, way to approach this. It depends on the condition of your files, your playback equipment, and the effects you want to achieve.

it was filtered out by the forum software as due to the nature of the links and being a new poster, it triggered the spam filters. the post has now been approved, though there was no need to repeat asking multiple times where the post was (as you'd already noted that you were getting a message it was waiting for approval).

as for the rest of what is being said, i'm struggling to follow the english to fully understand what is being asked / requested (other than it's most likely not something Winamp can do as-is or without additional coding / 3rd party plug-ins which do what is needed, etc).

there was the v0.57c update iirc which was a few years (2007?) after the initial release but it still relies on specific checks / assumptions on things in Winamp's plug-in dlls which is why it was flaky even when it was being developed.
