Transcription tools commpatible with Winamp

Hello, I wonder whether you would be able to help me,
I am a doctoral student and I need to do 7 interviews and transcribe them. The interviews are going to be one hour logn each, so it would be nice it I could have a foot pedal. I am currently researching in buying one (cheapest possible option as I am on a strict budget) and a digital recorder. I would be looking to use winamp to listen to the mp3 files, to do my transctiption. Would you be able to advise me on both? Maybe two that would be compatible? (digital recorder and foot pedal) and both being able to work with winamp and windows 8.

Many thanks in advance!
Anastasia

ps. i live in London, UK, if it makes any difference

How to control Winamp when I am in Word

Hello again, I just posted this

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=373674

in the forums, asking for advice in buying a foot pedal, and I JUST realised, that I wouldnt need to buy it, if I found a way that I could control Winamp (pause/play, Back 5 seconds, Forward 5 seconds) when I am actually in Word transcribing!

Anyone has any ideas on the easiest way to do that?

Many Thanks again!!
Anastasia

For controlling Winamp in a different application...

You could set Global Hotkey for Winamp...
1. Winamp > Ctrl+P (for Preferences)
2. General Preferences > click on Global Hotkeys (you may need to double click General Preferences to expand the brench)
3. set to your heart content
4. close out of Prefs

-or-

Control Winam from the Notification Area (AKA SysTray)

1. Ctrl+P (for Preferences)
2. Plug-ins > General Purpose (you may need to double click Plug-ins to expand the brench)
3. double click 'Nullsoft Notification Area' > set to your heart's content want
4. close out of Prefs.

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

why would you not use software that transcribes audio for you? google voice, dragon, etc, you have to clean it up but it does a good job.

because a lot of people want to do it on the cheap i.e. free and for a lot of the time, just being able to rewind a few seconds on the audio is all that is wanted (based on what I've heard from people with my old repeater plug-in).

google voice is free, although I'm not sure it would work on this, but it might. I think both windows and mac have some kind of voice transcribing built in, but I haven't used it. tbh I don't really understand the foot pedal thing, or why someone would do it this way when the computer can do it for you. it takes a lot of time to transcribe stuff.

The foot thing is used in hospitals as well. If you record the voice of kids etc, it's better if you don't hold something in front of the children - they even don't notice, that you record them, which is wanted in some scenarios. Also you have 2 hands free. There are a lot of reasons for using it.

Auto speech detection can be a mess, if you have tons of noise everywhere, especially in public places like hospitals for example.
