Album Art View - Change field sequence?

Hi,

I am a rank noob here. My collection is 99% classical. In the album art view, I would like the covers to be in composer sequence, but I can't do that because it's not one of the options.

Is it possible?

Not sure if this is what you're after, but what I did was create a Smart View selecting "Classical" as the genre and with Two filters set to Composer / Album Art.

Thanks for the tip. I am new enough that I will now go and read up about smart views!

OK. I fooled around with smart views.

The only way to get the album art display seems to be to make a copy of the Audio view.

Changing the sequence in a copy of that view affects the list displays, but does not influence the album art sequence - It is always Artist/Album/Tracks/Year/Last Updated.

It seems I will have to put the composer name in the Artist metadata field to get what I want. Any better suggestions?

Okay, I think I know why it's working for me. Something that I've always done when ripping or adding classical music files is change the album title to conform to the normal convention, ie. Composer - Title of piece.
Eg: Brahms - Serenade No.1, Mendelssohn - Symphony No.3 etc.

As Album is a sortable column in the cover art pane this gives me what I want. Unfortunately most ripping software does Artist - Album Title by default as that most suits the other genres.

If your classical albums are tagged by the latter method then I don't think you will be able to get the same view over the whole collection, but you can still use the Composer list in the left pane as a shortcut to each composers entries.

Hope all that made sense.

CJ_Man,

You have confirmed (a) what I had concluded and (b) that I'm not a total idiot. Maybe it's time to learn how to write a classical skin!

Thanks for your help.

guys, you could just leave the album title as just the title, and copy the composer tag values into the albumartist tag values, and the art would then arrange by albumartist, which in such a case would be by composer.

Hi MrSinatra, that's a fair point. In my case I still prefer the album titles to conform to the classical standard for nomenclature and I carry this over to the individual music and cover art file names as well as I keep all the files in a single level folder.

I've been doing this for ages and it works for me but your suggestion of using the Album Artist tag may be an good solution for Gary128.

Heh, I didn't mean it to sound so "official". I just meant meant that I like classical album titles to be as the works are normally referred to, composer / title, that's all.
