Main.dat corrupt?! Media Library (view) broken

Hello community,

I hope you can help me.
Yesterday my windows 7 ultimate crashed while shutting down. I'm not sure why, couse I just had the same programs open as usual (firefox, winamp, trillian, msn, skype) as usual.

It booted again and I shut it down.

Today I started my PC, but my winamp-(view)settings seemed to be broken.
"No problem" I thought, backed up my media library files (plugin folder including main.dat etc...) and reinstalled the client completelly.

But after restoring my backupfiles, my media library view was broken again

I tried every hint that I found in that forum, but as I see, the rating is stored in the main.dat and that seems to be broken (see screenshot - the view next to the left column is missing). but I don't wanna loose all my rating.

has anyone a idea how to fix this problem without loosing all ratings?

has anyone had that error before?

If main.dat has been zeroed you're out of luck I'm afraid.

It's been suggested that this should be made more robust, but the only real defense is to back up main.dat and main.idx regularly

The whole ml folder would be even better.

You can use Winamp Backup Tool in future, to backup your library database including tons of other files.

Hi,

thanks for the "really-worst-case"-tips, but my back uped main.dat is 6,39 MB (6.701.592 Bytes) - so there should be hope?!

Or is it irreversible corrupt?

Should be fine then, as long as you have the main.idx backup to go with it.

Put them both in the ml folder and there is hope.

But that is exactly the problem. I restore the whole plugin-folder WITHOUT the main.dat and everything (playlists etc.) is fine - but when I restore the main.dat, the view itself breaks (see screenshot in first post).

That's why I think the main.dat is corrupt.
Please check the screenshot in first post: is there any way to fix this view problem?
