.Wav file not playing

I have a .wav file on my computer that is a TV theme song and I have never had any success playing it in Winamp 3. The file is one minute and three seconds long. However, in Winamp 3, only the first thirty seconds of the file play and then the next file in my playlist starts up. This same file plays perfectly in Winamp 2.x. Any suggestions on how to correct the Winamp 3 problem? Thanks in advance!

WAV files are WAY too big anyway, so my solution I think is best. You will probably be offered other solutions, but...

My solution:

Convert the WAV to a much smaller MP3 file. Matter of fact, I'd do this with all wave files (except those WAV files needed for system sounds).

Now there is a Winamp3 component called Diskwriter that will make this conversion for you, but I won't link to that, since I don't like it myself. You can find it though in WA3 components pages.

But I will link to the proggie that I always use... CDex

This will solve your problem.
CDex also allows these conversions:

MPEG > WAV
WAV > MPEG
MPEG > RIFF-WAV
RIFF-WAV > MPEG

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

There's a chance that this WAV file might already be compressed
eg. mp3 layered but with WAV header
or possibly with some other form of compression,
or maybe it was recorded with weird frequency/bps combo?

What is the file size?
Can you post more details?
eg. rt click .WAV file in Explorer, select Properties
Look in Summary/Details tab and tell us what it says under Format.

Re .wav file not playing

Thanks for the help! The file is 156KB. Properties list the file type as being a Winamp media file. That's all the information I really have, except for the fact that it is listed as being a .wav file, which we've already established. Thanks for any help!

Well, if it's only 156kb this confirms that it's definitely a compressed WAV file, not an ordinary WAV. A one minute uncompressed WAV file would normally be just under 10MB.
We need to determine what it's compressed with, and then why WA3 won't play it.
What's your Windows OS?
WinME/2k/XP all should have those extra tabs in Properties for WAV files.
If you're using Win9x, open this WAV in Windows Media Player 6.4
Go to: File menu -> Properties -> Advanced
and tell us what filters/codecs are in use.

In the meantime, install WA3Update patch to make sure you have the latest versions of input/output components.

It may be compressed as an A/mu-Law Wave, or an ACM Waveform.

Go ahead and download/install Cool Edit. Use it to convert your compressed WAV file that won't play to Windows PCM WAV. Then you can convert that to a much smaller MP3.
