Use microphone and play music at the same time

Hello,

I can't seem to use my microphone and play music at the same time which is a bit boring. Does anyone know how I can do this? I am on Windows Vista.

Thanks

You should have no problems doing so regardless of which OS you are using.

AS LONG AS

- your playback device is set to use your default sound card and your speakers are plugged into your "Speakers Out".

AND

- your recording device is set to the MIC recording

Thanks for replying but this is what I did and it's not working.

I enabled STEREO MIX and Mic in is the default recording device.

I unmuted MIC IN on the SPEAKERS playback device.

When I set it to sound card it only plays my music and when I talk it does not input my microphone (even when I press Push To Talk)

What do I need to do?

Thanks

It is hard to advise anything without actually seeing your desktop. From what you've explained - all correct.

What player are you using to play music?

Are you using any apps for the mic or just simply attempting to "talk over music"?

I am using Winamp to play my music.

When I set stereo mix as default recoridng device, the listeners can hear everything from my computer but they cannot hear me speak, even when I press push to talk. When microphone is default, they can hear me speak but no audio.

I'm just simply wanting to talk over music.

Cheers

I guess that depends on how your sound card works. I know what you are talking about and I can do the same with one of my PCs, but for example on this PC I writing on right now, I don't even have the option to "playback from MIC" in Playback volume settings. They removed it. What soundcard you are using?

2 options:

1) Make all the screenshots and post here so people see what options you have enabled/disabled in Playback/Recording devices.

2) Or the hassle-free option (and if you have some extra $) just buy something like this:
http://www.zalmar.com/detail-Audio-D...nt-PMX_120.htm
Any 2ch. mixer with a MIC input will work and will give you an ability to talk over music. You should be able to find a used one for no more than $50.

(!!! before you buy, check if your MIC will work with it, some MICs need a more amplified plug in a mixer. Otherwise your MIC may be too quiet - I don't know which MIC one you use).
