Random crash on stop or exit

Random cash on stop or exit...

Winamp client version: 5.666 Build 3516
winamp caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module ntdll.dll at 0023:77bf8e19.

Exception handler called in Winamp.

Latest version with all patches.
I have a feeling it is in_mad.dll but I'd like to know why it plays fine but only does this on stop or close.
Any help appreciated. And yes I know the rundown re third party plugins but asking anyway.

crash is due to something out_sqr is doing. maybe it's due to bad input data from in_mad.dll but i have no debug symbols for either of the plug-ins so i can only provide a rough idea that it seems to be out_sqr.dll causing the crash in this case.

Thanks DrO. I CAN use out_sqr with default mp3 decoder and works well. I have tried various versions of mad and also mpg123 and all seem to do same thing. Crash on stop and or close randomly. :-(. Can't get it to crash on XP laptops I have. Only seems to happen on my Win 7 64bit PC

most likely because they just aren't built to play well on the newer OSes or as is more likely the newer versions of Windows are causing memory issues in the plug-ins to come to the fore and cause random crashes, etc as you're seeing.

is your choice, but a crashing and limited MP3 input plug-in is not something i'd want to keep using.

Update: After a lot of testing and reading up on AVS I think that was my issue. I'm going through a phase of leaving AVS on and from what I understand it's almost gteed that a random crash will happen. I read there may be more reliable versions. Looking in the AVS section now...

you really like causing yourself pain by running plug-ins not really intended for newer Windows versions (which is why AVS has been removed from the internal installers as its not worth the grief - though will probably provide a legacy installer so people can still get it if wanted).

"which is why AVS has been removed from the internal installers"
DrO, I don't understand what you mean there? Latest Winamp has the AVS still as an option doesn't it?
Re other outdated plugins, I can't live without them so no choice but to try them with little bugs if there.
And I'm used to pain having been married for about 30 yrs now.

the public installers i.e. what you have access to has AVS in it. our internal builds no longer include AVS and its likely to remain that way (with it most likely being provided as a small standalone installer).

Ah I see.
Well at least I know what I'm looking for now re my small issue with random crash.
Not a biggie and no fault of Winamp itself which is great.
