you should make sure you're using the latest patched 5.666 build 3516 first. then see if the issue persists however if you're using bento then by default this plug-in is not what is used unless you've configured it to be used with modern skins.

Thanks for the suggestions, but that didn't do the trick... I installed the latest build and followed the instructions for modern skins use given by pjn123 in the thread's first page, but no difference in the end. Any other suggestion?

those instructions are for doing things without this plug-in and without re-checking are probably conflicting with bento's own artwork handling (as it has its own areas below the playlist and in the info pane at the top) and are more likely the cause of your issue and has little to do with the plug-in that this thread relates to.

so if you're wanting a separate window, you're best undoing the skin changes made and configure this plug-in via its preferences to appear when using a modern skin.

Alright, I just checked "Auto-hide" and now it works fine (though I don't know what's it got to do with it). Thanks for your time.

Hello,

first of all I really appreciate your fine work.
I use this plugin to see the artwork of my music when I use modern skins which have no album cover part, which are a lot of good skins but lack this part.

This is really working fine except one thing. The picture itself looks very crappy because it doesnt seem to use any antialiasing to get the picture in shape. It looks like its simply leaving pixels out when rescaling. This is mainly effecting files that have a bigger picture in it (like 600x600 pixels). These are really looking scrappy. On the other hand if I go to the Title information I see that the embedded picture looks okay.

Is there a way to make the rescaled picture in the album cover look fine? What I can do is to change every embedded picture to native scale but I have 10.000 mp3's, that would take a while. This really messes me up, your tool is just genius and I like to watch the album covers but they look so crappy ...

Edit: I use now the native Album Art from the modern skin, not the plugin anymore. This has been described by pjn123 a few posts ago. Then the picture looks just perfect. Thank you anyway

ditto what djknuddel said.
This plugin is pretty much flawless except for this. Would be awesome if you could implement a better resizing/antialiasing algorithm, i think lanczos3 is the current best available.

Here' an example:
http://img907.imageshack.us/img907/6143/FPKuW8.jpg

Left is the plugin, right is faststone max view (most dope image viewer imo) I have antialiasing enabled in fastone (which i believe is lanczos3)
In the plugin you can clearly see some bad aliasing on her shoe and the stool.

Original image is very high quality, 1500x1500 folder.jpg - none of that low qual embedded nonsense.

edit: one other nice addition would be to change the double click functionality (perhaps as an option) to directly open the folder/cover.jpg instead of the folder itself (if present, falling back to folder if you only have embedded images). So we can quickly get full screen art.

DrO is no longer working on Winamp plug-ins, so it is unlikely that there will be any more updates for the many he has donated to the community. After 12+ years, he has decided to do something else.

Oh well, perhaps someone will make a similar plugin with said functionality for the new winamp release.

If the plugin's source code was still available I might've had a go at it...

Hi thinktink,

The developer hasn't posted here since March 2011. At one point he offered to put the source code on Sourceforge. I don't know if he ever did. Anyway here's the link to the plug-in's thread (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=223756). Maybe his contact info still works.

Context means everything don't it?

I was talking about the Album Art Viewer plugin from this thread, not the playlists one.

I don't think DrO will release that source code. I could be wrong.

My PC with Windows Vista has NVIDIA, and my notebook with Windows 7 has AMD.

On both computers I saw this plugin working, when I had checked the many beautiful Classic Skins (ugly Classic Skins don't come into my Winamps). I saw it also on one of the both old XP computers from Spring 2004, while it was alive yet, after the first one was already dead since June 2007. This year also the second one of the XP computers has died.

Mostly I myself use the cPro & cPro2 Skins, after I had used only the default Bento from 22nd July 2010 to April 2014.

I hope, such good plugins will be continued and revived some day...

For what it's worth, I always intended this plug-in to be open source (bsd style). I no longer have the source code (or even a PC) so I'm afraid you're going to have to rely on DrO for that.

very cool, and very nice of will to make open source.

however, i would like to see this as a visualization. and actually, i think it would be cool if you could make the art with whatever tags you choose appear for some length of time as tracks change, and then goes back to the visualizations / eyecandy.

so one vis mode would be just art with tags all the time. the next mode would be art, then morph into a vis, then next track, back to art/tags, then morph into a vis again. and u could set if it should shuffle the vis or not (as tracks change, or as time elapses, etc).

but this is prob all off topic. just throwing it out there.

(you could also have the vis show previous track and next track, as smaller arts/tags, either vertically or horizontally, and maybe add the current time and date, etc... the vis could be like a kiosk type jukebox, cool for big tvs and using with a remote control)

I was able to get it to compile and run in Winamp but I was forced to put the source code inside the SDK directory before it would compile. It also depends on files not present in the current published SDK: api_albumart.h and svc_imgwrite.h I had to copy these files into the SDK from my Embedded Art project folder, I forgot where I found them originally.

I am able to replicate some of the anomalies reported but not all, I assume not all because I'm not using the same images.

There does appear to be some different things I can try, several older APIs that can be replaced with some creative work-arounds for a simple shoe-in. However, it may have side-effects...

I've got it looking MUCH better!

Attached.

Caveats:
  • I'm using different functions to resize the image to get better quality that causes it to run a bit slower. Users on higher-end machines may not notice a speed difference however.
  • This is from the 0.5 version, not the latest version 1.03.

Includes both the compiled DLL and an NSIS generated installer.

I assume you didn't work with the latest version because you don't have it's source code. If so, that's a shame because it has some useful updates over the 0.5 version.

DrO does and he is working on Winamp plug-ins again (http://getwinamp.com/blog/).

Maybe he can be persuaded to give thinktink a copy or incorporate thinktink's improvement himself.

Would be great to update version 1.1 for winamp 5.8, v1.03 work but the quality of scaling is no where near v1.1.

color me confused...

where is v1.1? who is making it?

if DrO has the source code for 1.1 or 1.03 or whatever, and Will is the orig author and wants it open, shouldn't DrO provide it in accordance with Will's wishes?

https://winampplugins.co.uk/gen_classicart/ for every version, I went for a lower version than 1.03 and it fixed the pixelation on scaling.

This Attached version mentioned by Benski does the trick for me.

so V1.1 doesn't work with 5.8?

1.03 does look pixellated, but I thought that was a Winamp issue and not a plugin issue, am I wrong?
