Here's "Slim Shady" :

Reworked stick mode.

The "stick-ends" will reveal different drawers. I think this one is better.

OoooOooo, I like the new shade mode. Seems like more functionality packed into a smaller space.

Oh yes, it also seems you guys got aroudn the problem of the green font. So you can gamma group fonts now?

this is just a screenshot from PS. RPC is working on a promising workaround for the fontproblem.

I love it, it's beautiful!
Keep the name "Slim Shady" for it, it fits soo well

Great work, can't wait to see the standardframe

edit:
are you planning on having a gaziljon different modes in it, like RPC has in his skins?
That would be really cool, but it's totally ok if you won't have that too..

True! But he's working on a totally different way on "controling" the fonts now - as I understand it.

damnit, I wanna learn how to make pretty graphics like this!
I've always been interested in working with gfx but I've never had the talent enough for it... it's really frustrating..

oK! "Slim Shady" it is! lol

What do you mean by modes exactly? there's the 3 skin...modes, config mode on the main with (hopefully) more cool options besides what I've allready shown, advanced VIS on the main and mini (stuff you haven't seen).) I guess that's about it. We're deveoping along the way...and it works great so far.

More than enough for my first wa3 skin I think

heh, I guess we're jealous of eachother
I'm gonna continue coding, but it would have been fun to learn how to make graphics like that..

about the modes, well I meant main, mini, stick, something, something...
For example, mercury has Normal, Classic, Stick and Mini. And Venus so far has Normal and Planetary (round) but will have a total of about 6-8 modes I think...

That's what I was talking about..
but three is more than enough for me
And it's absolutely "enough" for the first wa3 skin
Maybe a classic mode though........ *ponders*

aahh..hehe...we'll just have to wait and see - I could always make another mode But I can't be making the gfx forever and RPC can't be coding on Invicta forever (he shouldn't be) besides..I want to see more RPC skins!

If it wasn't for my work and private life I would have finished all the gfx a long time ago. But I know RPC is busy also so I guess that works well with our schedules ;P

i think the workaround fore colour themeing fonts is to have a group with the fonts in, setting the background for the group to be plain white, and sticking sysregion="and" in the fonts tags, that way you change the gamma of the background layer and the fint colour changes... or something like that...

yep, i think a forum beta would go down nicely

WOW! That is hot!!! By far the coolest stick mode I've seen yet!

I have yet to come up with a solution for the bitmap color theming. The reason some text is a different color in the screenshots is because it wasn't actually text at all. I've attemped every possible workaround I could think of but have been stopped by one problem or another each time. ARGHH!!! I've tried Hollow's suggestions that all bitmap fonts are automatically in a gammagroup, he's written it as a few different names though, but none work. I've tried placing the text in a group with a background and sysregioning the text, no good. I've tried reading the selected color theme from studio.xnf. I've tried catching the button click that actually switches the theme and seeing if I could get some useful info out of that, no good.

I've even tried simulating the text by recreating the text with individual characters as layers. This seemed the most promising, but quickly became overwhelming since it would mean I would also have to simulate the ticker effect and dragging aspects. Even worse, when I tried to set it up as a xui group, the text elements began to behave erratically and don't like when you change thier XML properties.

I'm pretty much giving up on theming the fonts, unless someone else has any ideas?

So... I think what we need to do is possibly make the default font more neutral, and create a way to specify different font colors elsewhere, maybe even by right-clicking it. The different font colors will each have to be a new file.

Why not make the text a white then add an alpha command to it? If alpha commands dont work with bitmapfonts, the just place a transparent layer of the lcd over it.

Alpha attributes don't work on bitmap fonts and the transparent layer technique can't give me the vibrant colors I want, only a dull tint.

What I am doing now is making color variations for all of the fonts. I'm adding a Color Themes window, which has the list of themes and font color options next to each other so a user can easily mix & match. You'll also be able to select the font color by right-clicking any of the text. I'm also going to try and override the color theme section of the preferences to place the font options in there as well.

This isn't the solution I would prefer, but it's the best alternative I can come up with.

the only comment i have (dont shoot me), is that the left side where crossfade and shuffle is. I dont think just simply putting the 3 words there looks too good. Compare to the right side where the time is, it looks sorta empty and rushed.

all the same remember to gammagroup the fonts, otherwise if the font gammagroupability is built in to another version of winamp (I bet it will) the skin won't use that feature.

I think interchanging the time with the Shuffle Repeat buttons and the title by the volume/scroll button might be a good idea, IMO...

although it's not the solution anyone would prefer, I think it's currently the absolutely best alternative.
Once Nullsoft fix the font gamma problem, you could make the skin have support for both!
btw, is this gamma bug in #495?
has anyone filed in a bugreport about this to bugzilla?

I know ONE way to make the font gamma work.
If you change the gammagroup "General", the fonts will be affected but so will everything else..
I don't know if this can help you in any way but now you know atleast..
Maybe you can override the gammachange of everything else by changing the gammagroups accordingly?

I dunno, but I thought it's better to tell you than just shut up

theres a trick, where if you have a gammagroup without an id= param, and you mess with the numbers or whatnot, it gets applied to everything that isnt in a gammagroup in the elements section. doesnt work with the fonts though... i think theyre untouchable

didn't know that..
but like I said, they are not completely untouchable as the gammagroup "General" will change the gamma for everything, including the fonts.

WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you have struck gold Plague! I have a fairly solid workaround going now to color theme fonts, very much a pain in the ass to pull off, but I'd say it's worth it.

Here's how it works, first set the "General" gammagroup to whatever value you want for the fonts:

code:

<gammagroup id="General" value="2304, -2176, 3584" gray="0" boost="0" />

Then to get everything back to the normal color you have to cancel out the values you set in "General", with opposite values:

code:

<gammagroup id="player.metal" value="-2304, 2176, -3584" gray="0" boost="0"/>

You have to cancel out every gammagroup you have defined as well as the system ones. This will leave any elements that aren't (or can't) be colored by another gammagroup the "General" color. You then use the cancelled values as your starting point to get the color you actually want!

I'm experimenting with it more now to see if it's going to mess anything else up.

spoons, I'm concerned about the "General" gammagroup not working for you, are you using a newer build than #488? Maybe the newer builds don't support the "General" gammagroup, in which case this won't work.

hh: yes they do...
rpc: I've tested this on #488, #491, #492, #493 and it works in all those builds...

Yea this could be a pain in the ass to have to do when making colorthemes, but atleast it works!
Although I still think you should include your previous workaround, cos I think that's a very good idea and it's a good idea for those who don't want to have to mess around with this "General" thingy..
