I'm busy atm with another skin that is soon finished,so I wanna finish it first before starting on Stargate.
After that, it'll still be a good while before there's anything to show, because this is a huge project that will take alot of effort and code.

It'll take time, but it'll be done for sure, don't worry about that.

Okay Folks.. Plague just let me try the first internal beta.

Whhooooo damn .. he's already got the dhd and gate there, and your able to enter glyphs on the dhd and the gate will start dialing.

Which is just kewl watching the chevrons light up and the glyphs locked in.

Well Wally.

your right it does take time. And if things go well we'll get the okay to release it as is, else i'll have to dumb down the graphics which will also mean recoding stuff.

But our major goal now is to finish phase 1 so it can be sent into Birdcage/mgm so RDA (as exec producer) can lookat it and give us a green light or red. (if we get the green light we may also have to have it hosted exlusivly by sg1.com.. but deal with that then, but rest assured.. i will come in here and post a link to it.)

Is there no way to have a alpha/beta/something. I mean dont they want us to TEST it first? Maybe you could talk to them and get an OK for some sort of test

Well first dlichterman.

We're (the SG:WA team) are doing what we can, but harrass Plague, as he's in charge of coding. Prolly cuz i know very little on coding Skins. And from what i've been told, untill we have something to show the right folks, won't get yay's or nah's anyways.


And tbh.. while i like the idea of public beta's, a few experiences (if anyone remembers the Q3 mod Bid for power) of over zeleous lawyers from media company's going ape on a fan project, is enough for a life time and i for one rather not see my fiscal properity plus this project 86'ed because of something as insepid as that bs.

Yes I remember bid for power.
Public beta's are good but as I expected, and that seems logical, the people at MGM want to be the first to look at it outside the SG:WA team that is. So they won't realese some crap that doesn't live up to the high quality of hte show.

I mean I totally understand the desire to maintain control of thier brand. and after seeing projects get thrashed for being too good (like the aformentioned bfp). I'd hate to see all the time put into this one swirl the bowel cuz lawyers came a calling. So were holding off on any public release till we get approval, and then for all we know we might be restricted to releasing it thru only SG1.com, but i will endevor to keep everyone posted on events.

This whole this LEgal thing is terrible,
But a few beens for the pot:

The centre of the Gate should be used to contain the EQ, Vis and Video displays.
The DHD and the Gate should be seperate windows, with locking so that the DHD can overlap the gate a little bit.
The DHD gate symbols should change on Mouse-Overs (Your probably doing this already) so that the Studio control buttons are easy to use and the Easter Egg function is activated by pressing the "Dial" button first (For Eas of USE)

Other than that, I Love what Your doing, and will definitely download when a full skin becomes available.

aite, I'll update y'all some..
I haven't touched the code for about 2 weeks now, cos I've been away.
I'm gonna get back on the coding any day now but there's no release date. All I can say is that I promised the other team-members that I would have it done before season 8 and Atlantis airs, and I intend to keep that promise.
Now, that doesn't mean that it WILL take that long, but it means that it COULD take that long.
Also, even when it's completely done, we still don't know if/when we can release it, as MGM has the last word on that.

Progress so far is a working Stargate simulator with a database of 24, or so, working addresses. The DHD works, the Gate spins and light up, etc... all good..
No "player mode" stuffs has been implemented yet, but I think that's next on my list...

Cool. Any chance of loading up some .gif images of the gate rotating or something similar. Would be nice to see how that looks for example. That should be fine as it's only images.

Ok. My last post was shot down, so here's an idea for an easter egg instead.
Those of you will remember that Richard Anderson started out as McGyver in the popular series. Find out whether McGyver was MGM and see if they'll let you show pics from the series and play the Theme tune as one of the Easter Eggs.

(After all, the Stargate Series was Anderson's brainchild, and he produces, directs, stars and even handles some of the script writing. Sure, some guy made the original movie first, but Anderson made it popular).

Since we are on the McGyver topic, I noticed that in the Space Race episode in S7 there is this tall power plant looking cylindrical device of some vague type that bears an uncanny resemblance to a device in this McGyver episode, even the layout of the building is very similar (at least at a glance). I wonder if it was designed to look similar...

Why not. I know in the first season they were dropping McGyver jokes all over the place...

ep3: "We had to McGyver the gate system a bit!"

etc. And when Anderson took over producing, you know he would stick in some of his own humour. He may not like it, but McGyver was the start of his career, and by the end of the series he'd come a long way as both an actor and a producer/scriptwriter.

Why Thank you Cmming.

Yeah macgyver humor was in there alot.. injokes in sci fi are as common as lazer guns

But no.. there will be No MacGyver content in this skin. if this was more RDA based then yeah we'd consider it. But we rather focus on the whole of SG1 and try to not focus too much on one actor/character in the eggs.

Maybe if this project get's the green, maybe we the team will discuss doing Character variations.

Here's the deal:
The deadline I've set up for myself is that the whole thing should be finished before season 8 and atlantis airs. This is still valid.
However, there will be no public betas and even when the skin is done, it still might not be released. This is because of possible legal problems that should hopefully be resolved by the time the skin is done, but it's no promise.
So in either way, none of you guys will see the skin before MGM allow it.

With that said, right now, I'm trying to get a life so I haven't coded at all in a while. I'm not really sure when I'll start working on it again, but ofcourse I'm gonna have it finished in time.

Status update

No, I haven't forgotten about this.
I'm coding the playermode at the moment, the gate simulator is pretty much done and fully working so it's just the player mode stuff left to do plus standardframe and stuff like that..

Anyways, It would be great if someone could make a water animation (doesn't _have_ to look exactly like in the show, just so it looks like water, it's fine) that could be used in this skin.
Right now, we're using 8 frames, but if that's not enough, it's fine to have more, just preferably not less than 8.

I'm attaching an example strip, made out of stills from the show.
Each frame should be 344x344.

If anyone is willing to make this, it would be much appreciated, and this individual will ofcourse be considered part of the dev team, and get all nice betas and shit...
