HELP!! Winamp deleted all my files!
I just uninstalled winamp3 and in the process the uninstall took all my mp3 files with it. I'm using XP Pro; does anyone know of a restore function or why this happened in the first place? I tried emailing the feedback address and got a delivery failure.

My guess is that you stored all of your mp3s in the Winamp directory? If you say yes, well, you should have known better. Never store personal files in the Program Files directory. That's what the My Documents folder is for.

LOL!!!
![]() Common sense dictates that if you put ANYTHING into a folder or sub-folder of any installed software in Windows, and you uninstall that software, you will LOSE anything you shoved in there during the uninstall process. The topic of this thread should not have been "HELP!! Winamp deleted all my files!". It should have instead been "HELP!! I deleted all my files because I put them in the Winamp folder and then uninstalled/deleted Winamp!" Actually, all my MP3's are located within C:\Morpheus\My Shared Folder *NOTE: Morpheus is defunct and the program no longer exists on my puter. Therefore, it's totally SAFE to keep my files there. But you can create ANY folder on your HD, seperate and apart from Program folders, to store your music files. Example: C:\Music Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. dechene...
Please supply your operating system. That info is needed to see whether or not the files deleted during the uninstall (not present in the Recycle Bin) can be recovered or not. |

OK. I have XP Pro too and unfortunately I see no way to do this through the system itself.
BUT...... download/install this > Recover - Drive & Data Recovery It looks like it will work... Quote:
Let us know if it works. GOOD LUCK! ![]() |

File Scavenger
This program seems to be working. It's going to cost around $40 to recover everything, but that's a drop in the bucket when considering cost/benefit analysis. The Recover program didn't seem to work. It was a trial version that cost about the same as this scavenger one, yet didn't give you a preview of what was available. I'll let you all know if this works, and thank you for all your help. |

Well, it works. If this ever happens to anyone else, make you sure you have somewhere to transfer your recovered files to other than the volume from which they came, i.e. another hard drive, CD burner, networked computer.
Thank you again for all of your help. ![]() |
