One more thing
A million years ago, I was inspired by a skin called "Super Mario Bros. AMP" by a skinner called The Warlock. I found it on The Mushroom Kingdom long before I ever came to this site. Despite the fact that I didn't have the download speeds to make mp3's practical, and barely had the processing power to play them, I was so mesmerized by the skin and the possibilities it implied, that I became a bit obsessed with the hobby.
![]() Years later, I was honored to be the one to update the skin for Winamp 5, to ensure that it remained available to inspire others. So now, with Winamp.com coming to some sort of an ending, I'm going back and ripping off / paying tribute to the skin that inspired me. I'm not remixing it as dramatically as I did when I remade JJPotter's SMB3 skin into a World 2-themed remix... This will be more like when I updated my own 8-bit SMB2 skin with 16-bit graphics. I'm improving the animations a bit where I feel it's appropriate, but for the static skin I wanted to maintain the original layout as much as possible, rather than adding the level of busy-ness that usually fills my skins. Here's what I have so far: ![]() I don't think this would have passed the Winamp.com skin submission guidelines, since I don't have permission from the original author, but I also don't imagine there'd be much point in submitting it by this point anyway. Once it's done I'll post the download in this thread, and once the community decides where it's migrating, I'll be happy to repost it there. Shout-outs to the other retro game skinners, JJPotter, T Mrym, Hank Richie, Anel Sanchez, Darkwing Skinz, Steven Vander Giessen, B Manintveld, anybody else who I missed. Also high fives to the community members who've supported my nonsense, Mr Jones, Mike-db, Stillwater, garetjax, flatmatt, Widdykats, Veroka, simon snowflake, Wildrose-Wally, and so many many many others here. Also finally a shout-out to skinners like Steve Moss, Richard Pettifer, Xenosomething, and the aforementioned Stillwater for setting a really high bar for detailed, internally-consistent skins that made me want to improve my own original art. I'm sure there are tons of people that I'm leaving out... Feel free to say "hey, what about me!" and I will shout-out to you as well. ![]() Keep living the dream. -LH I'll post the finished version soon. |

Luigi:
that's just great. I'm a big classic game and game music friend and I have grown with my SNES. Super Mario Allstars introduced 16-Bit graphics and sounds and the old Mario bros games looked better than ever before. I really look forward to your release. This will fit perfectly into my other Nintendo skins. ![]() I'm also a long time user of your ZeldaAmp III skin (and other of your skins) and still think, that this classic skin has the best N U L L S O F T easter egg of all skins. ![]() My Winamp Info Report | My Winamp Backup Log | My WACUP Info Report Own Projects: | Winamp Tray Control Icon Pack v3.5.3 | Winamp Backup Tool v3.5.1 | >> [b]Winamp Info Tool v6.0.3/b] << | German Translations: | Offizielle Deutsche Winamp Sprachdatei v5.66 | Offizielle Deutsche Winamp Sprachdatei Plus Version 5.666 Useful Winamp Plug-ins: | SNESAmp | 64th Note | NotSo FatSo | Highly Experimental PSF Player | Yar Matey! Pretty good, ta. I'm still around, still roaming the interwebs. Still sharing graphics work from time to time. Still playing ancient videogames on cutting edge gadgets.
And how are you, Mr Free Beer Allowance? ![]() |

Still having it large matey, still plenty of free beer flowing...
Odd you say about ancient video games, just recently re-purposed my wii and turned it into a 8 bit emulation heaven, manic miner in full hd played out on a 42 inc LCD panel with wireless controllers, somewhere back in time my ten year old self just discovered orgasams... Drop me a pm sometime, be grand to catch up, the 'other' place is still hanging in there for the time being or I can give you the old FB profile or summat. |

Glad people are connecting.
I have the first four windows implemented. I decided to do Bowser's castle for the media library (instead of the underwater level I used in my v5 update) because I imagine that the media library is used more often than the video window, and it's nice to have the first 4 levels represented in the main 4 windows. Not sure if I'll use underwater or castle or something else altogether for the video window now. ![]() |

Thanks!
Almost done now, just some boring stuff like windowshade modes left to do. ![]() While I was making that gif I decided to make some for the other original Mario games, since the whole main series will be represented now. ![]() Super Mario Amp 2 I did the original and the remix myself ![]() My Super Mario Amp 3 remix is based on a skin by JJPotter |

Just wanna say, if I don't finish this tonight before the site goes down, I'll post future updates on http://winampforum.com/ and eventually publish it on http://luigihann.deviantart.com/ and http://1001skins.com/ when it's ready.
Peace out everybody |

Here's a usable preview version. I'm not in the mood to make windowshade modes yet.

I should probably finish this at some point. When the forums didn't implode in a firey ball, I guess it felt anticlimactic enough that there wasn't much motivation to wrap it up. But this was a nice skin that deserves to have... working windowshade modes.

Funny story
The original SMB1 skin that inspired me to start skinning was created in the year 2000. In the year 2005, I had made a ton of skins, and was confident enough to agree to make the Winamp-5 compatible version of it for the Nullsoft Classics thing. That 5-year timespan is about the same amount of time... as the amount of time that passed since I opened this thread. Getting old is weird. Anyway, I have access to a legit copy of photoshop again, so I went through and finished this up. Windowshades, cursors, adding Luigi. All the important stuff I left out last time. ![]() Here's a link to the finished skin: http://puu.sh/z5SNl/97d20bcd58.wsz I'll probably put a copy up on my Deviantart account, because what else is there to do with it now? |

Good to see you're around Mr Jones
This guy on twitter built a JS-based winamp emulator that runs in a browser, and then built a bot that tweets out random winamp skins: https://twitter.com/winampskins So when I saw the old SMB1 skin on there I was finally motivated to clean this thing up |

Neato!
Also may I say (five years late), that that's a nice soundtrack choice in the 15-Dec-2013 screenshots! |
