Thanks for the info. there are a few you missed though. Some I've seen in my log files, and also windows media.

to sum it up, mostly any player that supports mpeg streaming content

Hello,

I am new to this area of IT, but I am researching the possibility of using a FLASH player as the interface for streaming audio from a SHOUTcast server which would deliver Internet radio as well as other audio streams. Since the FLASH player was listed in this post, I wanted to ask for links to research more on this topic, or simply links to streams that will run on this player.

Other discussions I have viewed seem to indicate that the SHOUTcast server stream is not compatible with FLASH, but maybe they are out of date now, and this problem has been solved.

As I said, I am new to this area, but I am looking into setting up SHOUTCAST server on my computer to broadcast streams to currently compatible players such as WINamp. But ultimately I am interested in FLASH compatibilty.

In researching FLASH as a compatible player, I found a reference to the "loadSound" method as a way to stream MP3 files in FLASH. It says these files can exist on a remote server and be controlled by a FLASH player. Is there a reason this remote server cannot be a SHOUTcast server?

It's a player for Mac OS 9/X.

I have also seen xmms behave like it is being used for stream ripping but I can't find a plugin for stream ripping for xmms anywhere (thank goodness), so I am not sure if people are actaully using it for stream ripping or not. I could list all the names of the other nine or ten very common stream rippers that people use, but I really don't want to give these weasels any more help. I do not have user agent strings for any of those rippers.

There is a stream ripper plug-in for winamp that has four different names you can choose from to hide what you are really doing.

Freeamp/2.x
Streamripper/1.x
UnknownPlayer/1.x
XMMS/1.x

I don't remember where I got it from. If I find it I'll post a link to it.

It should work. Plug-in for Winamp2 is first in line. There is others in the list as well. Go down a few and you will find plug-in for Winamp3.

Oh yeah. Beware of the program called RipCast.

Since the FLASH player was listed in this post, I wanted to ask for links to research more on this topic, or simply links to streams that will run on this player. Other discussions I have viewed seem to indicate that the SHOUTcast server stream is not compatible with FLASH, but maybe they are out of date now, and this problem has been solved. As I said, I am new to this area, but I am looking into setting up SHOUTCAST server on my computer to broadcast streams to currently compatible players such as WINamp. But ultimately I am interested in FLASH compatibilty. Thanks for your comments in advance, cableoz

It says these files can exist on a remote server and be controlled by a FLASH player. Is there a reason this remote server cannot be a SHOUTcast server?

There is others in the list as well. Go down a few and you will find plug-in for Winamp3. Oh yeah. Beware of the program called RipCast.
