Hi setaoe,

I don't know what the "StackHash_0a9e" module is. Try reinstalling over your current installation using Administrator mode (right click on the installation file and select 'run as Administrator'). Do not include Orgler, it no longer works and only include the Portable Media Player plug-ins you actually intend to use.

When reporting your configuration, you should use the plug-in version of One for Nunz, if possible (it provides better information). Use the attachment option (underneath the area where you write your message) to include long reports in your posts.

Hi setaoe,

A reinstall is a quick thing to do that would solve the problem of something having not installed properly. Your issue seems to be more involved than that. You still installed all the Portable Media Player plug-ins. Do you really intend to use them all? Some users have reported problems with various ones. The devil is in the details and you are not providing enough.

What kind of scan (media library, playlist generation, both)?

What types of media (audio, video, formats)?

When/where during scan did crash occur?

What else can be reported that may help solve the issue? Like, has Winamp ever run successfully on your system? If it did, what else, if anything, changed on your system when Winamp started crashing? And so on.

May be you should look at the threads linked in post #5 again.

You started out in post #6 saying you were having the same problem as the OP (rickly). But you are not. All crashes are not the same. His indicated "Fault Module Name: winamp.exe", your's said "Fault Module Name: StackHash_0a9e".

You need to help us, help you.

Hi first of all winamp was working fine until monday
nothing chanched. I meaned local media scan to put my media into the libary
ctrl+p > media libary > local media > wacht folder > scan.
What kind Of media only Music files mp3,wave,flac and so on.
And everything what was diffrent I already turned back.
I just reinstal winamp whitout the portable plugins same results.
And I know now that my problem is diffrent that why my previos post.

Hi setaoe,

Something happened Monday that you are not aware of or you don't think anything that may have happened is related. Anyway, you still are not giving any details on when or where during the scan the crash occurred. You may be better served to search for posts from others reporting problems while doing a media library scan.

Some, because of the number of files, had to do the scan in sections (a few thousand at a time) in order to complete the scan successfully. Some had corrupt files. Others had other issues.

Even if you don't find a solution for your case, you will gain an insight into the type of give and take required by this kind of support (were remote connection to your computer is not possible). A whole lot of guessing (and requests for info) just waste time.

I can not tel where the scan stops because it stops every time on a diffrent piont.
And I am fully aware of al chances in my system and what your saying you don't know what it is.
Once again before it worked just fine even the scan part I had on auto scan and almost every week new files add and still no problems.

No, I can't say exactly what the problem is because it could be a variety of things. Its beginning to sound like one or more of your recent file additions could have corrupt tags (or a tag update when badly) which do not prevent the files from playing, but could cause the media library scan problems.

There are free apps available for testing files for this. "Mp3val" and "Mp3 Diags" are 2 that come to mind. There are others for other formats. I mostly have mp3s.

When generating a playlist, as soon as I get to the analyzing step, I crash. It is not a RAM issue. I have registered the DLL files. I have tried nearly every possible fix I have found.



I used Mediamonkey to add in a great deal of my album covers, and I think they may be embedded. Any1 have any suggestions on how to unemmbed them so I can try that solution

there is nothing which can be done about other than finding the file(s) which cause it and not using them as the issue is in the processing within the Gracenote provided dlls and to fix it, Winamp needs to re-write their implementation to use a new SDK which is not on the cards to be done.

the files having artwork is not the issue and running validation tools on the audio file(s) affected is unlikely to help as that has been tried and the Gracenote libraries being used still failed on the same specific files.


tl;dr...
it's known it crashes and there's currently no solution other than not processing the bad files or not using the feature.

Trying the MP3 Diags first, just really slow process. But is there an alternative to the gacenote based playlist generator or something along those lines? Id love to get this to work. Would possibly downloading a different version of the .dlls work?

Also, the Auto-Tag feature is working, where I know others were talking about that wasnt working

just downloading other dlls will not work. Winamp needs to be coded to use a newer version of their SDK to resolve that issue, which uses different dlls, etc to do things so it's not just a swapping of a few files to resolve it.

it's an intermittent issue so sometimes parts work, sometimes they don't.

unless an alternative is mentioned in the prior posts, i've given the only real options other than the third which is use a different player.

So verifying Im understanding what you are saying, its an issue with the dll, no so much my library/files.

The only other thing is is there a limitation of 6000 music files for the search? Some posts were indicating this

it's an issue with the libraries Gracenote provided and the only way to fix it is to re-write it with their new SDK (i.e. dlls).

i don't know about the 6000 file issue as it works flawless for some, and not at all for others and somewhere in-between for everyone else. it's a nice idea, but when the underlying libraries fail, it just makes Winamp look bad.

The Gracenote feature works for me, but I also use an abandoned app called "MusicIP Mixer" (link below). Somehow it still works for making playlists based on a 'seed' file. It's web-based features do not work. It takes time to analyze and 'fingerprint' each file. So for large collections, I suggest letting it run overnight or when you are not using your computer for other things. The analyzing process can be stopped and it will pick up from that point when restarted.

There are several options that let you adjust what is included in the generated playlists. Using files with correct metadata (tags) expands what is possible. You can search the forums for discussions on this app.

It is always a good idea to use files that are as error-free as possible. Analyzing files (that you did not make yourself) for errors (which MusicIP Mixer does not do) is time consuming and requires patience. "Mp3val" is faster than "Mp3 Diags", but also less comprehensive. Test a few hundred at a time when you have the time, 'fix' or replace the bad ones.

Well a new error has arisen, I get a "playlist generator failed to initialize" when I try to run a scan now. I've tried to delete the appdata\...\gracenote\ to see if that would work, and resetting database, no luck... Ugh

Was able to get it going again, but there are clearly some files that are making it crash. Trying to identify which those are. Maybe not actually. Just keeps crashing after a little bit. Alright so I IDed one of the "problem files". The thing is, it shows up just the same in mp3 diag as another song by the same artist. I never the less tried to "fix" it through mp3diag. Still didnt work. Im moving the file for now, its not that important of a music file, but still... Would someone who is more intelligent with these topics be able to download and examine it?

Alright, Im making some headway! I still have no idea what was wrong with that file. Anyway, What Im doing is systematically adding back all the files. Everytime i add back maybe 75 files at a time, and if it scans successfully, I backup the files under C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\ . If I get an error, Im narrowing it down to which one it is, by copying the backup over top of the \gracenote\ files, then adding one by one until it crashes. So far its working, I will report back when I have completed it. Unfortunately, I have a massive library, but hopefully the stuff from Rhapsody should copy over with no issues

For the love of god, FINALLY! Got it to work. Heres what I did (I hate when people dont explain what they did to fix it)

1. Make sure you have one consolidated music file. I have 2 music folders, and it would have been MUCH easier if it was all in one. I have to keep them seperate, so it created some issues. Mediamonkey is good for organizing

2. First thing to do is clear your library. You will lose the all your play count w/e. Its unfortunate, but its a must to fix this

3. Begin adding folders to your library, small amounts at a time. I'd suggest ~300 at a time. The reason you are doing it at a small amount is to try to identify the problem files.

4. Then go to settings --> plugins --> Media library --> Nullsoft Playlist Generator --> Configure. If its the first time doing it, erase your DB. Otherwise, select scan.

5. After each successful file set, close Winamp. Then go under the following directory (may be different on 32 vs 64 bit): C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote and copy all of the files, and paste it into a seperate folder. This is a backup of all the successful scans you have done, so when it fails, you don't need to rescan all the clean files. You must do this everytime, or you will regret it!!!

6. Keep repeating this process, adding files, scanning, then exiting; until you run into the problem file. You will find the problem file when winamp gives a crash error, BUT DON'T EXIT!!!

7. Move the crash error out of the way, and find where it says how many have been completed on analyzing. For example, lets say its 40 out of 300. Write this down.

8. Exit out of Winamp. Take the backup Gracenote files, and paste them back. The database gets corrupted everytime it runs into an error file, thats why you should make a backup.

9. Open winamp, and scroll through your library to the bottom. Count upwards to find where the problem file should be (this only works if you have been adding them alphabetically by artist name). When you find the file, such as in this example it will be 260 from the bottom, right click and select "remove from library". Also, move the file from your music folder. Then try rescanning. It should process through fine now. If you made an error, it may be that more than 1 file by the same artist is a problem, or that you needed the song 1 higher or lower.

10. As long as you have a successful scan after identifying the problem file, you should be ok to continue with the process of scanning, exiting, backing up, and adding, until you run into more problem files. MORE THAN LIKELY you will have more than 1 problem file. I found them in both my MP3 folder and my protected WMA folder. They just have issues with gracenote.

And after several hours (make sure you put on a good movie while doing this all), you should have a fully scanned library. Im not certain how to fix the corrupted files. They play in winamp, but not with gracenote. Posisbly download different verisions. All of my corrupted files are not all that important, so Im probably not going to waste my time.

You have managed to identify the "problem" files, even without finding out why they are problematic.

I have 2 suggestions:
1. Experiment by scanning your entire library, after removing the "problem" files, to see if the number of files causes problems.
2. Analyse the file names and metadata of the "problem" files to see if there is something common that may cause a problem.

to repeat myself yet again, the metadata has nothing to do with the issue. it is purely in the processing of the audio by the Gracenote libraries and is a fault in it, not in the files being processed or the audio they contain when it's been passed to the library. it just isn't a simple thing to fix when needing to use a different SDK from them to re-implement the same functionality.

what xFaultx has done is the only way to get it working by filtering out things. and due to how and where things crash, it's not possible to catch it to prevent Winamp from crashing (as was covered in the other long thread about this same issue).

You have managed to identify the "problem" files, even without finding out why they are problematic.

I have 2 suggestions:
1. Experiment by scanning your entire library, after removing the "problem" files, to see if the number of files causes problems.
2. Analyse the file names and metadata of the "problem" files to see if there is something common that may cause a problem.

As indicated by DrO; I dont really think its an issue specifically with the ID tags. I have 2 songs, from the same album, same artist, same coding, same everthing. When scanning them with MP3 diag, they have the same issues. But one file works fine, the other doesnt. Even ones that come up with no issues in the scan, some still have problems. Its something obviously on gracenotes end. In the end, those files werent ones I care to much about, so I am okay with it.

mp3diags is one app, mp3val another. I generally use mp3val first, b/c it can fix most things, and is fast. if something needs more attention, then I try vbrfix by moonbase or mp3diags, etc

As I said, I tried both Mp3val first, then tried MP3 Diags, but no luck

I didn't see where u mentioned mp3val, I was only mentioning it in case it wasn't known, but I didn't expect either to fix your issue.
