PS: Please tell me that "[Winamp creator] Justin [Frankel], who was totally not interested" is one of those 2..

This is really sad to hear, Winamp has probably been my most used program over the last 10 years, hope you guys reconsider.
With the latest build we can no longer view file info when running a direct show video, that's very useful to know what codecs are loaded. Is there a setting in preferences to restore that? Also, right clicking brings up a dark menu, can that be changed to the usual gray color? If I can't fix these issues I'm back to an older version and that's unfortunate since you're giving up on any future development. |

Change the skin to a brighter color schema.

Well, I must confess I felt a pang of sadness to read this
![]() I've used Winamp ever since my first 133Mhz pc. I will be sorry to see it go. Thanks to all who made it great, and DrO for keeping at it in its later years. Thanks for everything guys, and a huge f-u to AOL. Last.fm |

We're back to gray menus, that little crisis has been solved.
With view file info these are .flv and .mp4 videos. On XP I just upgraded today from 5.63 and that was working fine prior but now it isn't. It appears that the new version broke it. Another problem I just found is that I can't go back or forward with these same videos although again they were all working with the older version. I guess I'll be retiring with 5.63 unless you change your mind. |

if you've gone from 5.63 to 5.66, it could be any of the versions in-between where it happened. is there anything specific about the files at issue? or a way to get an equivalent copy to test it out?

that's just an in-built feature in Winamp to not show info for rubbish like that

Wow, 16 years and now it's just vanishing? That kind of... well, blows, really. I suppose I'll throw my two cents in.
A) Why? I think everyone would like the answer to that (and I can't seem to find it myself, strangely). B) (and this one is more important) Many thanks to everyone who contributed over all of the years, it's been a wonderful go and I've never used anything else. I'll miss it. "Don't fear the reaper." |

Is this a final build or is there some tweaks to possibly come?
I ask because my install had the crash reporter in it and this is usually only installed for betas etc. |

it was changed so the crash reporter is present in all builds mainly for helping to trouble-shoot things with 3rd party plug-ins (when it's able to be loaded as most of the issues so far seem to stem from old input plug-ins) - as it'll still generate crash dumps even if they cannot be sent to the current address (one of the benefits of config options!).

I've an obscure bug... If I try to restore from a bottom-docked player, it restores underneath *everything*, including the desktop. If I pull it off the bottom first it's fine. Did the same thing in 5.65, but I never discovered it until the other day when I tried out bottom-dock and liked it.
Also DrO, will your plugin site stay up and running even after Winamp goes? |

For me when you mouse over the taskbar icon I only see the first letter of the song playing with this version. Was fine in previous version. Anyone else have this issue.? Happens in XP and Win 7

To make it easier if you're going to check on this it's only .flv files using direct show (ffdshow) that I'm having a problem with. Nothing happens when clicking on "view file info" with any of my dozens of files and they won't go back or forward. |

Thank you all.
I registered to say Thanks to all the people that kept Winamp and the community alive.
I've been using Winamp for a couple of years and I'll continue to when it wont be with us anymore. Is there no chance for the website to stay? |

I registered on this forum so I could at least give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who worked on Winamp past to present. I have been using this software for more than 14 years, when I was streaming internet radio via a Lasat Safire 28.8 modem to two tinny little Hewlett Packard speakers. When it came to streaming audio, Winamp beat them all. Winamp will always whip the Llama's ass. May all of you go on to bigger and better things.

This is sad news. I hope the sourcecode will get released or some will take over the project.

I could not believe the news when I was reading it. Winamp has been with me since 10 years and I have loved each and every version. It feels like my heart is being ripped and one of my best friends is parting away.
Thanks for the work dev guys, DJ Egg, and DrO. Winamp will rise from the ashes - take it opensource. I will be among the first to contribute to buy the code. ![]() |

Muchas felicitaciones |

![]() But - why on earth did you now include the Crash Reporter plugin (to whom will it report??) Why is it installed without asking and not listed in the installer, and why can't it be uninstalled via Winamps Pref dialog (Winamp restarts, but it's still there after that)?!?! I had to manually remove gen_crasher.dll to get rit of it... Quote:

having to manually removing the crash reporter is expected. and i explained why it was added by default in http://forums.winamp.com/showpost.ph...8&postcount=54 and it was never an option to not install with the beta builds - we just flipped the build flag to not exclude it from final builds. if there's no crash then it being there is not going to do anything to how Winamp runs, etc.
and so far i've used it to help determine issues with some old 3rd party plug-ins which people weren't using, so it still provides some benefit. |

the 5.7 beta programme (which was for the Cloud feature) was stopped a few months ago so correct, there is unlikely to ever be a 5.7 release. as such 5.66 is all that is now available.
