Changing genre field for all songs from a group

My collection has a few bands with hundreds of songs.

Is there a way to set the genre of a particular band without highlighting all of the tracks, right clicking and selecting "View File Info" and filling in the genre field? That's very time consuming.

From the Media Library, select all the tracks that you want to change the Genre.
Right click on one of them and go to 'Edit metadata ... ' <Crtl+E>
Now click the Genre box and enter what you want. Don't touch anything else.
Check the 'Update file tag(s) ... ' box (at bottom left).
Click 'Update' button.

i've got the same problem, but my files aren't in the media library and i can't put them into it without creating too much chaos, i hope you know what i mean..

i actually only have the possibility to open these files in the playlist, but there isn't the 'edit metadata' option, so i only could edit the data song by song which is impossible with 2000 files..

any idea to edit my tags all in once with winamp?

As an alternative, try a mass tag editor. .One of the highly suggest mass taggers here at Winamp Forums is MP3tag.

Someone also made a plugin in the past, which gives access to the library tag editor in the playlist:

But I'm not too sure, if the plugin is still working with latest Winamp versions, though.
