I was told its because we are noobs and might be spam bots... but I cant see spam bots wanting to use shoutcast on a mac.

Winamp forum... wth ?

I mean, if I am missing something here, my sincerest apologies but.... I need to see about setting up shoutcast on a mac.

a bit fed up of looking for a design friendly universal stream player

you run the bsd build of dnas on OS X assuming you have an i386 mac and not a G series mac.

sc_trans has been made to run with OS X, so you would just use that.

All you have to do with both of these is edit the configuration files o your liking, save them, and run them.

For example, if the binaries live in the /user/SHOUTcast folder, then you would start them by opening a terminal and typing:

./user/SHOUTcast/sc_serv config_file_name.conf

./user/SHOUTcast/sc_trans config_file_name.conf

What has to be done if you are using a mac G series computer? I have a G4 and have tried to follow the directions at the beginning of this post (I have not been able to find the sc_trans.conf file) and the directions posted recently using the bsd files, but neither seem to work. i'm am not very familiar with terminal and dont really know what the error messages mean that i get, most of the time when using the osx files (not the bsd) it says:

Event log:
<09/05/09@19:29:34> [SHOUTcast] DNAS/MacOS_X v1.9.8 (Feb 28 2007) starting up...
<09/05/09@19:29:34> [main] pid: 1720
<09/05/09@19:29:34> [main] loaded config from sc_serv.conf
<09/05/09@19:29:34> [main] initializing (usermax:32 portbase:8000)...
<09/05/09@19:29:34> [main] No ban file found (sc_serv.ban)
<09/05/09@19:29:34> [main] No rip file found (sc_serv.rip)
<09/05/09@19:29:34> [main] opening source socket
<09/05/09@19:29:34> [main] error opening source socket! FATAL ERROR! Some other process is using this port!
logout

[Process completed]

i think the main problem is the "some other process is using this port!" but i dont know what that would be or what to do.

any help would be appreciated.

When you close sc_serv. it will not kill all the daughter processes.

Go to Applications --> Utilities --> Activity Monitor and manually kill all processes with the name sc_serv.

I don't understand why there is not a solid solution for MACs. I don't have a problem paying for the software it if is available but it is crazy that there is nearly nothing compatible for the Mac in regards to Winamp or Shoutcast.

You can run the server on a Mac but yet you can't broadcast

Another mind boggling things is that MAC's are used by Audio and Video professionals to edit, create and manipulate but then there is absolutely nothing to broadcast the streams.

Purchased Crossover to run winamp but it is so buggy to a point where you can't even run a decent broadcast.

I guess the only REAL solution if you have a Mac is to use Live365

It takes a little more than that for a new user to be able to post links. Hit quote to the reply of the link you are missing and you will see the links.

I've been streaming with my MAC for about three years now and only had a problem when I first started. What have you done and what are you using to broadcast? I'm currently using Nicecast. Thanks.
