Noob needs help setting up DNAS
Ive been trying to do this for 2 days on my own.
anyone willing to take the time and hold my hand through this? I have server running but havent figured out how to listen yet. I've poured through the docs folder already. I've googled my fingers raw. I need to set this up so that multiple DJs can connect (sometimes at the same time for various shows) im not computer illiterate but I am new to all of this |

do you have a basic understanding of networking?
"If you don't like DNAS, write your own damn system" So I did |

If you're having a problem getting your DJs to connect then that means either you gave your DJs the wrong IP, the wrong settings, or you didn't forward the ports (if you're behind a router.) Since you didn't specify whether or not you're managing DJs through the Transcoder (and what port you've set for the DJs) I have no other information or suggestions to give.
Multiple DJs cannot connect directly to anything (whether it be the Transcoder's DJ port or directly to the DNAS itself) at the same time. Their audio will have to be mixed together externally to the running DNAS/Transcoder (whether by software or hardware) before being sent to DNAS/Transcoder. How you present your station will determine what you need to do to listen. Please take note that if you're running the DNAS on a machine that's behind a router then you will probably need to use different IP addresses between those that wish to listen that are connected to the same internet connection as the machine the DNAS is running on and those who want to listen to your station that are not using the same internet connection as the machine that the DNAS is running on (sorry, I know, it's a long sentence, but I need to be precise.) jaromanda's question is not a vain one and this stuff really does require a certain level of understanding about networks: LANs, routers, public IPs, private IPs, ports , and so on. |

OK! I have figured out a few things. Called my ISP and they told me the ports werent blocked. figured out that my antivirus was blocking it and added rules to my ports.
NOW I have the station showing up in shoutcast directory. Still cant play it though. i open the file in VLC and it asks for a password? I open it in winamp and nothing comes out. still not sure how to do DJ stuff. still getting errors: 2011-08-02 19:06:00 E msg:[DST 127.0.0.1:64325 sid=1] SHOUTcast 1 client connection rejected. I dont want to use icecast2 though, i want to use shoutcast... I KNOW its a matter of my conf files... I am just so new to this that its mostly greek to me what i need is help with setting up conf files (I dont even know which ones i need to run or do i need sc_trans or ... so confused on the .confs) |

more info
sorry, so frustrated. and not all of my posts are even posting.
some more info. I need to transmit audio (duh) I need my DJs (using sam broadcaster) to be able to log in, kick off the autoDJ and broadcast, then be able to log off, reinstating autoDJ I need to figure out how on earth to go about having more then 1 DJ in different locations on air at the same time. I have the networking stuff all taken care of. the issues im having (im pretty sure) are all related to the .confs. if anyone has any of this stuff already set up/or the no-how. Im sure we can have it up and working in less then 20 minutes |

This is a video for a very old version of the config builder but it should still help:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?p=9CEE865782729DD0 Watch all the videos in the playlist before acting on them. Installing on a remote linux server (if you're doing such a thing): http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...5CC88C20C75B72 After watching these videos if you still have problems please post back. |

On shoutcast directory when I click my radio I get this error:
TypeError: mcval is undefined after using config builder i can download a .pls and it works in winamp (for the first time) Shoutcast directory not playing yet (not enough time elapsed?) **Is playing now** When I opened transcoder, Sam broadcaster wouldnt transmit (got message that it couldnt connect because another encoder was active) I had to close transcoder in order to get sam broadcaster to broadcast.... this being the case... how do i set up a DJ login? |

Seems to be working fine now. I am able to listen with the YP directory listing's little flash player.
Grats. [EDIT /] Forgot to point out that in the videos in the first link it shows you how to make DJ's using the configuration builder. I demoed only one but you can add more. ![]() |

one problem
Everything is now set up just fine... except...
I still cant have DJs log in. I cant use sc_trans sam broadcaster wont connect when sc_trans is running. I have figured out how to configure skype & VAC to allow multiple DJs to broadcast @ the same time... but I still have no way to get my DJs to be able to log in and take over my stream |

Make SAM a DJ and give it a lower priority than the live DJs in the Transcoder configuration then set it to connect to the Transcoder instead of the DNAS. That way when a live DJ connects the Transcoder will kick SAM in favor of the higher priority live DJs.

In detail?! No, I'm not familiar with SAM at all. Just have SAM connect to a v1 DJ port with the password set as [name of dj you configured for SAM]:[password for SAM dj]
For example, if you configured the SAM dj in the config builder like this: DJ login name: SAM DJ Password: XXXX DJ Priority: 0 Then in wherever you set what SAM connects to, you would set the password as SAM:XXXX and change the port to the Transcoder v1 DJ port. What that looks like in SAM I have no idea. In the config builder the v1 DJ port is the port you enter into the "DJ port" field, not the "DJ SC2 port" field. You have to click the "Advanced Mode" circle at the top of the config builder page (just below the drop down box for which operating system you're using) to see it if you haven't done so already. |

O.o?!
![]() ![]() Unless you entered the password wrong I don't see how or why the Transcoder would reject SAM's attempted login. Try using the v2 stuff and see if it works. If you still can't get it to work send me a PM and I'll do a remote session with you if you want. |

Ok, SAM broadcaster supports v2 but only directly to a DNAS, not a Transcoder DJ port.
I know why your DJs weren't working, it's because you had the calendar.xml file inside the calendar folder but it needs to be inside the base SHOUTcast folder because that's where the config builder references it. Prolly shoulda made that clearer in the video. Oh well, it's fixed now. The playlist file I made for you only contains a single wildcard character entry to bring in all Transcoder supported media (songs) in the same folder as the SHOUTcast base folder. You can put something other than the DeadAir.mp3 file I gave you to use as a backup song when there's no DJ connected. Let me know if you have any other issues. ![]() ![]() |

Almost forgot. Take that djdebug=1 out of your Transcoder configuration. Forgot to do that before disconnecting.
