maya 44 "error creating direct sound buffer"

Hi Guys

my sony vaio running windows 7 starter and winamp 5.56 throws up this message when

using the maya external usb card while " nullsoft directsound" output is selected

however " nullsoft waveout" works perfectly with this device.

any ideas please, i run an old version of winamp because of the problems i mention elsewhere with jump to file and manual playlist advance.
