Viewing JPEGs

I'm in the same boat as many who added the NiceMC plugin; I can't set iexplorer as my default JPEG viewer. I've read and tried all of the suggestions listed in this forum and nothing seems to work. Does anyone know where to find and edit this information in the windows registry? I'm running windows 98.

Thanks for any help.

Winamp Plugin

Sorry, I wasn't too clear. NiceMC is a winamp plugin that allows you to view JPEGS. It alters the registry making winamp the default viewer for JPEGS. It's almost impossible to change this setting (as I'm finding out) without editing the registry or reformatting the hard drive.

Hold shift, right click on a JPG, choose OPEN WITH. Choose IE or MS Paint, and check the "Always use this program to open this type of file" button...

Get rid of NiceMC. Replace it with TaraAV. And a better viewer for JPPEG's than IE is IrfanView.

/me shakes his head in disbelief at the sort of plug-ins that are available out there.

If for some reason you insist on viewing JPGs with Winamp, you can actually view them in the minibrowser. No plug-in required.

first, go to your winamp folder.

c:\winamp
or
c:\program files\winamp

navigate to your plugins directory, and find the NiceMC thing. (Probly Gen_nicemc.dll or something) Delete it.

From the same explorer window, goto the FIle menu, and the third bar in is View. Go to Folder Options inside the View menu.

There are 3 tabs at the top, General, View, and File Types.

Go to File Types. Either find .JPG or make a new one using the Editor of your choice.

Or, just download Irfanview, which is the best IMVHO and run it after deleting the NiceMC thing. Open Irfanview, press [P] on your keyboard, go to the Extensions tab and select Images Only or All.

All done!

Was this post helpful? If so, please post saying so.

Good luck and may the force be with you. Cheers, -Col

btw folks, it's an input plugin
(also supports movie/video formats)

You might also need to disable the Winamp Agent to disassociate filetypes from Winamp.
Prefs -> Agent : uncheck "maintain file associations"
(the other 2 settings are optional)

A tip for future reference, don't post requests for tech support in Gen_D
Use the Tech Forums instead . . . pretty please

for all those who can't be arsed to click on links.

go to my computer, then go to view/folder options. then go to file types on the tab bar. find "jpeg image", the first one. then "edit". in the box where it says "open", click on it so it's highlighted., then the edit box next to it. click browse, then find the internet explorer executable. click ok on all boxes, and you're sorted.

use the search, that's what it's there for.
