Winamp News
As you all surely know by now, Winamp & SHOUTcast have recently changed ownership (from AOL to Radionomy).
The winamp.com website is currently undergoing heavy work and an almost-completely new redesign. As a result, many features will be unavailable, including some in-client services. The Winamp downloads and Winamp Pro purchases will also be temporarily unavailable whilst code licensed to/by the previous owner is removed/replaced. We hope to have everything restored and back in working order as soon as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused in the meantime. Updated info about the next Winamp release can be found in the following posts in this thread: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....44#post3033444 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....18#post3045418 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....74#post3045974 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....75#post3051175 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....03#post3072003 ____________________________________ See also: Winamp Downloads Winamp 5.666 Released Manually adding an online service in Winamp 5.666 SHOUTcast Site, Directory (YP) and API Changes Update patches for current Winamp Release Gracenote Services No Longer Work In Winamp: Reason Why Explained |

The main winamp website looks weird at the moment. Nice to see the Llama getting a staring role.

I would like to suggest that the next version of winamp be:
Winamp 7 Radionomy edition ...and that the hallmark of this winamp be that all plugins must be verified as working with winamp7. this means building in a plugin verifier to winamp that can't be defeated and making a clean break with ALL previous plugins. in that way, only plugins which the devs verify as compliant will then be listed on the website. that would also lay the groundwork for including a "winamp store" where both winamp, and 3rd party devs, can share the revenue made by plugin purchases, and that revenue will encourage more plugin development. Noooo.... I would suggest the next Version of Winamp will be called - in the good, humble tradition of small version increments (I love them) - just 5.67!
![]() And I would anyway love to see no big changes in Winamp at all.... Somehow, I also would love to continue seeing the name "Nullsoft" in the resource strings. Just where "AOL" and AOL Logos were placed before, there could be placed Radionomy logos... But that's just my suggestions ![]() What ever will happen, I am somewhat confident that it will be just fine. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

it needs changes, or else it will suffer the same fate under Radionomy that it did under AOL.
the whole plugin system needs a new and different approach, if only to end the constant issue of old plugins breaking current winamp releases. new revenue wouldn't hurt either. New version should be >5.7 so people do not think that 5.7 Beta is newest. (the problem we had with 5.65 and 5.66)
As for the plugin system, if they don't host the whole old Winamp.com database all should be fine. Uhhh... if the final version looks like that... uhhh... errr...
I'm viewing it on a 22" widescreen monitor.. so much wasted space. 6x6 inch images? Almost like it's designed for smartphones/tablets with small screens only at the moment. Anyway, I'll save future comments until someone says it's complete. LOL. |

Looking forward to what is in store. Another long time winamp user here and hopefully it will only keep getting longer. I hope this news means the android app will be getting updates soon. All I could want is for the app to use the android apis for player controls, so it can use the normal lockscreen controls.
Also I guess I caught the site during the changes earlier today. Hit the current front page, but when I went to the forums I could navigate to anywhere. Which was lucky since I was grabbing the install and a skin since my computer got wiped at work, lol. |

I am loving the new look. As for the next version, maybe 5.7 is coming back with the cloud features.

Me too, a big redesign and a promise of a full re-work is more than great if you think what we've going through a month ago..

With new hands on board, is there is any chance to see Color editor fixed? (needless to say -though I will- it is a valuable tool not only for skinners, semi-advanced regular users play with it too)
Sorry for double post, but last is not related with previous.. |

Very cool, with this new website I had the feeling that finally a Win 8's metro fullscreen skin is on its way (and probably a brand new skins api?)

HTML5 based not Metro...
Liyo I think you'll find that the website is more HTML5 based not Metro style.
Hopefully Winamp will be one of the first companies to support and start using HTML5 properly instead of things like Youtube with their half way house method of developing a HTML5 interface (yes Youtube does have a HTML5 beta interface, but it's been in beta for ages and it's really hard to get into). HTML5 would be so much better than using Flash everywhere as it's easy to make it work on all devices, including those Apple things. Actually it was Apple that caused the problem refusing Flash on their devices and then Adobe stopped developing Flash for Android and Linux too which caused more problems during the HTML5 switch. Adobe are doing a very good job at killing their own software off at the moment, but not giving people an easy way to switch to HTML5 |

I hate win8 and the metro look. I can understand wanting a metro ver for say a tablet or phone, but given how MS is, metro might not even port to win9, who knows?

Very true, rumors are that the metro apps are going to be windowed in windows 9/threshold, but they are supposedly allowing unity between the windows phone apps and metro/windows8/modern apps, time will only tell.

Classic skin rocks!
I've always stuck with the classic skin, Winamp doesn't feel like Winamp in any other clothes

Someone else has reported that in another thread, too:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=375004 I can only suggest to visit the website of the radio station itself and open or save the playlist file from there. Although I always save the playlist files onto my PC (I do that in Mozilla Firefox), opening the files directly should work, too. My own .m3u-file "Radio Streams 2012" is still working: http://www.lastfm.de/user/SabineKlar...sts_for_winamp But I have mostly only radio stations with my preferred genres in my long playlist. Just signed up to the forums to support this new deal.
Having used Winamp long before Soulseek and Napster were around, it was totally shocking to hear they planned to close the doors... pure corporate blasphemy! Anyway, I just wanted to point out the ONE reason I can't live without Winamp... that's not to say there aren't a million things I LOVE about it... but this ONE thing really whips the llama's ass! Ultimate ML Plugin: http://winampheritage.com/mlplugin/i...p?p=umlp-about I beg of you... if there's any future development of Winamp... please integrate this type of file browser into the core software (icing on the cake: with copy/paste features). I realize Winamp has a very similar setup in it's core file search... but there's a LOT to be said for organizing our HUGE music collections, in the same manner we're used too with Windows file manager. This is something that every music player overlooks (Winamp included)... all trying to reinvent the wheel, and doing a mediocre job of it. What makes software truly loveable is it's ability to feel familiar, and the Ultimate ML file browser does just that (though lacking in features)... it's as close to Windows file manager with a music player built in, as we've ever had. Please, please, please expand on this basic usability concept. K, word is born... time to go tune some MilkDrop animations! ![]() |
