Winamp as the default media player
I have a question similar to this but it never seemed to have been solved.
I recently got a laptop. Dell Inspiron 8600 with XP Pro. It's great and I love it. But there's something I cannot do. On the extreme right of the keyboard, there are little buttons for play/pause,stop,ff and rewind. I'd like to use them to control winamp. I've found where to switch the default media player to control them, but winamp isn't an option. Is there some way I can add winamp to do this or a plugin to download or someone that can make a plugin/progam to do it? Remember, this isn't a file association problem. Thanks in advance. Have you tried contacting Dell, or searching for an updated version of their Keyboard driver?

I haven't contacted Dell and I doubt there is a new driver because the computer is less than a month old. I think it is more of a software "problem" with either XP or winamp.

Yeah, but the CD's they tend to give you can be up to a year out of date at times. Hell, my system had updates from Dell when I took it out of the box.
It is an issue with Dell's non-standard keyboard drivers. Their Access Direct program needs to be programmed to each program specifically to function properly. It doesn't use the MS standard for Multi-Media keyboards. Some Dell keyboards have been reported to work with Global Hotkeys. 1. Disable their Keyboard software program 2. Winamp: Preferences > Global Hotkeys 3. Select an action 4. Press the corresponding key on the keyboard Some Dell users said it works but it didn't here. |
