Winamp lags since update

This extremely annoying problem occured immediately after I updated Winamp to its latest version. When I change from another window to Winamp, let's say from Firefox to Winamp, it always takes exactly 5 seconds before I can use Winamp. None of the buttons work, I can't use the playlist, can't reduce the volume, nothing. Also the nice little bars going up and down near the title stay put. Has anyone else faced this problem? Naturally I'd be more interested in fixing this problem, so does anyone know how that could be done?

I don't know if this is anyhow related to the main issue but Winamp wants to access my virtual drives when they're in use. I've never had this message appear before I updated Winamp. My firewall says that it is highly suspicious behavior so I have always blocked it. However my virtual drives aren't always in use, so I don't think that can explain it.
