RIAA pays radio stations to keep independent artists off the air!
RIAA burn in hell!!!
--------------- Downhill Battle (downhillbattle.org) has teamed up with RIAA Radar to bring their consumer-information effort off the internet and into CD stores for the Christmas shopping season. Are you in? The Music Activism group has created 1" x 3" CD labels, both using the red white and black RIAA Radar design. One says "WARNING: Buying this CD Funds Lawsuits Against Families and Children." The other: "WARNING: This Record Label Pays Radio Stations to Keep Independent Music Off the Air." "We thought those were the two biggest reasons why nobody should be buying major label CDs this Christmas," said Downhill Battle cofounder Nicholas Reville, "When the major labels pay radio stations to play their music, it means independent musicians get locked out of radio--and for new musicians this means you either sign a terrible major label contract, or you'll never get mainstream airplay." continued: http://zeropaid.com/news/articles/auto/12032003b.php ![]() |

It's blatently been goin on for ages and is the one reason I don't own or listen to the radio - They play shit repeatedly and there is no choice.

Wow, I have a big fat opinion on this subject, but I'll trim it down quite a bit. Yeah thats why the little guy cant make it, unless he get PERMISSION from big brother. The RIAA are the real monsters. They are the ones that turned music into an 'industry'. This will eventually backfire on them. they will eventually end up as they really are 'The perpetraitors of evil'

the RIAA is also pushing legislation to become exempt from any future anti-trust litigation. Write your senators and tell them not to support this bill.

Goddamn it. I wish someone would burn the RIAA and all the big record companies to the ground and crucify all the big wig execs.

the immorality of their policies, and their clear lack of regard for music and its propagation is highly sinister.

If you live in a city with a college, you can probably hear lots of independent artists on the college station.

I spend a lot on independent music, but if I like a major label artist I try to support them in ways that don't enrich the RIAA label. Buying the band merchandise, going to concerts, making a donation, etc. Boycott the RIAA!

superunknown, can you recommend a few independent bands? I'm mostly into alternative rock, I like some metal but not the constant screaming kind.
BTW, you're right, the labels do pay radio stations to play their music, but not to purposely shut out independent artists. The independents simply don't have the money to get on radio stations. |

They cant do that! What the hell? No wonder it's so hard for indy artists to breakthrough, there really was a conspiracy to keep them off the air.
