Screen shots

Hi, I just wanted to know, how do you get screen shots of your winamp skins when you're finished making them? I created my first skins over the past couple days and would like to post them at one of my websites along with a picture of what it looks like but I have no idea how to do so. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Press the Print screen button on your keyboard "PRNT SCRN", that'll take a snap shot of your entire screen , open your fave graphics program, hit CTRL+V and paste that image in there, cut and trim as appropriate, save as whatever format you like, .jpg, .gif, .png .bmp etc etc etc

There is a program I use called "Screen Print" which does all this in one go. The way I've got it set up, I press Print-Screen, and then a cross-hair appears on my screen. I use that cross hair to select the area I want to capture (ie. I drag a square over winamp, so that only winamp is captured). It then takes it stright to the "Screen Print" window where I can save it as whatever format I want.

This is pretty similar to what the couple of people above have said, but you may find it more convenient since you don't need to do manual cropping, and also, you don't have to deal with RAM-hogging 1024x768 pixel BMP files (or however big your screen res is)

I think I got Screen Print at Download.com. I'm sure you could easily find it if you did a search there.

mostly i use the screenshot option in PSP though

I use a piece of transparentpaper, and draw all the contours, with a fine pencil. then I get my crayons to color it. Then I put it on my scanner and save the image.

i paint ss with oil on canvas, usually takes a day or two to dry, then send it with fedex to one of the forum moderators who's gonna scan it...

I think my way of making SS's is the easiest...I get my chainsaw out, cut the section of the screen out that I need then jam it into the floppy drive (sledge hammer helps out with this part of the process).

I have a working replicator from the starship enterprise...

I just program it to replicate my exact pc, with xp and all the programs i run on it, re-make the skin to where im up to, drive it to the screenshot factory, get them to cut the portion of the screen out with a glass cutter, they run it through a scanner, and copy it to a floppy disk.

Kiwi: wouldnt the glass break if it's hit with a sledgehammer?? It sounds a bit crude to me...

That's just a time saver for me...it saves me from having to add a "shattered filter" to the skin, the sledge hammer does it for you

1. get a binary printout of the memory (ram), when your skin is loaded
2. hack it to extract the part where winamp is loaded, and most important: your skin
3. write down every 0 and 1
4. call instead of your modam at your isp and read it out
(let's hope that their speech recognition is good)
voila! it's online

You people sure have strange ways of getting a screenshot!!!

Now here is the easy way: With winamp running, take a picture of the screen with a digital camera. (You could use a regular camera, but then it would take longer because of film development and then scanning it in).

Upload that picture to your computer, edit if necessary, and pack it inside your skin file. Submit your skin the regular way, and they will have both the skin and the screenshot.

BTW, make sure there are no light sources like a window behind you when you make your shot, otherwise it will be reflected in your screenshot.

Simon: wouldnt taking a screenshot like that be dangerous?? I mean the screen would have to be on for that to work...

I'd be easier to pick the scanner up and hold it against the monitor and scan it that way...

yeah, but your attempt to make the capture fails if you accedently move your scanner a bit while holding it infront of the screen.

Another obscenely simple option, buy a laptop, load the skin, rip off the screen and scan that....of course, as laptops have a pixel on/off time of approx 25ms, you have to work fast

Anyways... it's much easier to scan the monitor than you think: just get one of these hand-scanners (you know, you have it in your hand and have to move it from top to bottom manually). Press it on the monitor and do a scan. Of couse it's a bad quality and you will distort the pic.. but that's what photoshop is for.











You could also ask someone who has taken place in competitions like "who can stand still for the longset time?" and ask him to hold the scanner.

Submit your skin the regular way, and they will have both the skin and the screenshot.

You mean for the poor ppl who couldn't install WA, so that they can still look at your skin?
