plays perfectly fine here, in v2.80 with latest updates, i can hear "left-right-center" (file might come handy for multichannel tests). which output plugin are you using ? are you using some any DSP plugins ?

i just installed your update.. still sounds like crap. (only thing file MP3's sound fine)

im useing Crossfade Direct sound 1.4 beta when it sounds like shit

if i use wave out. it plays fine in all speakers... but with wave out i dont get MP3's out all 5 speakers only light and right and sub.

this is not a BIG problem.. just wanted to let you guys know.

i know this is the same problem on other nforce computers to. its been tested on 5 MSI nforce computers. (we talked about it on the nforce forum)

i'd blame nforce drivers, i have sb128pci/win2k here, plays fine via both DirectSound and waveOut.

try this out_ds.dll, it handles multichannel config like v2.79 one used to (but it actually breaks things on my sb128pci)

you have a good reason to moan at nvidia, they screwed up big time. feel free to keep this out_ds build, but i am afraid that i can't put this "fix" in Winamp setup because it breaks stuff on my setup, i can't even hear the center channel from that wav now.
seems that nforce drivers mess up when i pass custom multichannel speaker setup mask instead of using default values.
bleh.

Try installing the latest NForce reference drivers 1.05, you can get them from Nvidia's website.

http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=nforce_drivers

Also, try visiting the NForce Audio forum at 3DSoundsurge for other news, tips and stuff about it.

iv used the 1.05 drivers. and the asus beta drivers. it dosnt change with the drivers.

i installed 2.79 renamed its out_ds.dll to out_ds nforce.dll

then i upgraded to 2.80 and its normal out_ds.dll sounds like crap. change to out_ds nforce.dll it sounds just like 2.79 did.

whats difrent betwhen 2.79 out and 2.8 out???

read my post above again. the "problem" appeared because of custom speaker setup mask being used instead of default, so it's entirely a fault of your drivers. there's nothing in my code that could turn sound into what you describe, and mutlichannel output works (well, kinda - channel mapping is often wrong but it doesn't produce total garbage) on non-nforce systems (someone with multichannel card different than nforce could confirm that).

You should email Nvidia and report about this, CheeseCake22. Get one of their people to view and read this thread and test the latest out_ds plugins with Winamp. That would be the best way to get some needed bugfixing from Nvidia's Audio Driver Dept.

this is just a silly change of DirectSound parameters. here's the old (working) code:
code:
WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE wfxe;
wfxe.Format=wfx;
wfxe.Format.wFormatTag=WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE;
wfxe.Format.cbSize=22;
wfxe.Samples.wReserved=0;
wfxe.dwChannelMask=0;
wfxe.SubFormat=KSDATAFORMAT_SUBTYPE_PCM;
desc.lpwfxFormat=&wfxe.Format;
pDS->CreateSoundBuffer(&desc,&pDSB,0);

in v2.80 i changed it to:
code:
WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE wfxe;
wfxe.Format=wfx;
wfxe.Format.wFormatTag=WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE;
wfxe.Format.cbSize=22;
wfxe.Samples.wReserved=0;
if (fmt_nch==4)
{
wfxe.dwChannelMask=SPEAKER_FRONT_LEFT|SPEAKER_FRONT_RIGHT|SPEAKER_BACK_LEFT|SPEAKER_BACK_RIGHT;
}
else if (fmt_nch==6)
{
wfxe.dwChannelMask=SPEAKER_FRONT_LEFT|SPEAKER_FRONT_RIGHT|SPEAKER_BACK_LEFT|SPEAKER_BACK_RIGHT|SPEAKER_FRONT_CENTER|SPEAKER_LOW_FREQUENCY;
}
else wfxe.dwChannelMask=0;
wfxe.SubFormat=KSDATAFORMAT_SUBTYPE_PCM;
desc.lpwfxFormat=&wfxe.Format;
pDS->CreateSoundBuffer(&desc,&pDSB,0);

speaker setup masks possibly still arent strictly right, but they at least enable me to hear center channel from that wav on my sb128pci.
(stupid mozilla browser must die, idiotic tiny-ass post editbox)

Found some new NForce Audio drivers at WindowsUpdate.

Quote:
Anonymous writes "Windows Update has newer nForce WHQL certified audio drivers version 5.10.2849.0. Previously the latest drivers were 5.10.2843.0 as part of the leaked Asus 2.43 package.

I just tested it with Hercules gametheater XP on XP/OS in 6.1 surround.
It played ONLY thru my left F&R and my Right F&R. And after messing with the MCI devices in media control Proerites under the hardware tab in Sound in audio Devices. I got an error and it played thru my center and right speakers.
No Subs, Ceneters nothing.
I DO know they work Because I tested them in my sound cards settings after.
Iam not even gonna try to do the same thing in 2.79 chances are it will work after installing 2.79(usally the way it works for me). I could probaly also do the same with a few diffrent audio programs and get the same results.
I don't think the problem (mine) is anything else then windows XP.
Ive noticed that sometimes ill only have my fronts or various other combos working but if i Double click the curent speaker settings speaker settings in windows audio control and hit apply they'll work again (75% of the time). I also can double click the 6.1 selection in hercules to fix it sometimes as well.
I have Power DVD XP and win dvd and another i cant rember. I had the same problem with all of those programs as well. Mostly I would get awesome sounds and almost entirely no voice or something strange.
Power DVD (i think) gives examples like this when it comes to surround and windows XP. Their Sollution uninstall any microsoft related Audio.
