Personally, I think we all need to sue AOL for "Pain and Suffering." It needs to be a class-action lawsuit...at least a few million of us, going after at least a Billion dollars more than AOL has in assets, so we can shred that company apart, and use the money to help DJ-Egg buy out Radionomy.

Well said, it's kinda tiring and not constructive. If for every one complaining we would get one skin or plugin, Winamp would be more than alive and present.

Anyway, one good news is that Egg managed to solve the Spamming wave the forum has been suffering lately. Hopefully it lasts now (Egg tried a lot of things to this point, it was never easy).

Better to appreciate what we have: Still the best audioplayer on the market with some great visual plug-ins as a bonus.
One thing though, be sure that winamp is blocked with your firewall for any connections. Both downward and upward, totally blocked!
It isn't patched anymore so it could be as unsecure as anything that hasn't been updated for years!

Winamp is hardly vulnerable to any kind of attack or malware, unless you're using rogue plug-ins or surfing the web through its browser. Winamp just isn't as popular to funnel an attack through, and even then, expecting the user uses winamp and uses it to watch video files (flash video even) is a huge stretch.

So I came here looking for a bit of nostalgia and saw the 'coming soon', then realized that was over 3+ years ago...

Then saw all these people hanging onto the 'chance' it will be updated.

Being a software engineer myself, I can guarantee you one thing. If this product ever does get released, it will be terrible. I mean god awful. Nothing can go into the darkness for 3+ years and come out looking good on the other side. Winamp is dead. Move on. Quit replying, quit hoping, it's lame.

Shutdown the forum and delete the website. It's the only sensible thing to do.

well thats rather obvious as is. but even just saying that after so long a time would be worthwhile. he said 5.8 was basically ready for release just waiting on the legal dept... well hell, even Euro-lawyers finish at some point.

i'd really like to see winamp bought by one of these nerd billionaires just for the fun of it. if i were Paul Allen for example, it would be a done deal. see the code go to the universal windows API so it can be like Kodi and in the windows store. then put add ons for it in there too, to encourage 3rd party developers.

Hardly the legal department, like you said, it shouldn't take this long. From what I heard anyway, 5.8 is actually more stripped down than 5.666, so it's like waiting for less. I pretty much think that radionomy was just giving lip service in the beginning for winamp, but just wanted shoutcast. it's evident with this website code still linking to aol. Unless I hear otherwise, there's no developers, no software development team, and not a single care for a new winamp to be released by them.

If you want to start a campaign, ask radionomy how much they'd sell Winamp for, then add enough to hire a few developers and try your luck. I'm not sure there's enough public interest in resurrecting an old media player but stranger things have gotten crowdfunded.

Hola, seguro que acá en el foro hay unos cuantos programadores, la mejor forma de revivirlo de a poco seria empezar a actualizar las carátulas y los plugins, eso puede ser de forma anónima y externa sin nada que ver con la companía de winamp, de esa manera solo diríamos que esta en coma y no muerto

Si en realidad el reproductor anda bien, lo que necesita es una nueva lavada de cara y la creación de algunos plugins estables y que se amolden a la actualidad, creo que con eso lo convertiríamos en la versión (6.Comunidad), es una linda fantasia e idea que se me ocurrió, si yo supiera hacer los plugins o diseño gráfico lo haría con gusto, en lo que puedo ayudar es en la creación de un nuevo foro para esta locura, tengo un VPS y se armar foros y paginas web en PHP.

I truly wish there was something I can do.

Believe me, no-one is more frustrated (and depressed & embarrassed) by the whole situation more than me.

I'm not a lead dev. I'm an engineer / technician / QA / support.
DrO & Benski were the (most recent) lead devs.
There's currently no lead dev working on Winamp.

Yes, we have a private/internal v5.8 beta, but there's nothing (much) new since I last posted :-(

Management has the final say, not me (or my lawyer, not that I even have a lawyer, heh).

I'm really sorry. All is not lost yet though, and I will never give up.
