Winamp stops playing. Timer is 0:00
Hi!
I know this topic has been posted several times but in most of them there is no clear in which configurations crashes so i want to get information about the same crashes triyng to solve the problem. When Winamp is playing, it could have been playing for hours (And not crashed in lot of days),abrutly silences in the middle of an mp3 (or at the end) and player timer is in 0:00. I can´t play another song nor close the program so i have to kill the process using ctrl+alt+del. While shuting Winamp, if i launch it again i am not able to play any songs with it, or with Windows media Player or other programs. Excepting sound windows seems to work properly, but i have problems shuting the system down, so many times i have to use the reset button. I´m triyng to know what is the cause of the problem (I have heard it happens with onboard Audio Cards...) so i want to know where do you run winamp. My PC is: -ASUS a7v8x-x -AMD xp 2600+ -512 Mb DDR400 -SoundMax AD1980 onboard audio card -Ati Radeon 9200 128Mb -Windows 98 Second Edition -Winamp 5.05 (But had same problem with 5.02) Thanks for answering. P.D: I have read there is some kind of patch for win98SE so i am going to try it and i´ll tell you it solves the problem or not. P.D 2: Sorry for my awful english, i try to write as better as i can. |

As there is no method of reproduction, I'm moving this from Bug Reports to Tech Support.
Yes, there is a (K-Mixer) patch for Win98SE, but only if you're using WDM drivers (Win98SE/ME/2k/XP) instead of VxD drivers (Win95/98FE): http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=88459 Information excluded, but ALL required: Got all the latest motherboard/chipset drivers (including onboard audio)? DirectX version? Using WaveOut or DirectSound Output in Winamp? Happens with both? (if only out_ds, then try these tweaks). Was this a clean install of Winamp? Any 3rd-party plugins installed? What other processes are concurrently running when the problem occurs? (ie. provide a HiJackThis log) |

Hi.
I use DirectSound Output because i need crossfading. Directx is 9.0 And i have the latest MB and Audio drivers installed. I have a clean install, and i have tried installing twice. I have installed the win98Se patch and got same result. I have installed two volume Normalizers, i use zyrax volume normalizer, but it happened before using it. Thanks for answering. |

Hi fear|nothing.
Are you using onboard audio? Which are the specs of your computer and O.S? Have you problems for rebboting the system? |

I posted my computer's specs a couple of posts back with some info from dxdiag, look up a bit. No problems rebooting other than winamp has to be shut down through task manager before the system will shut down.

I am wondering if its the motherboard as we all have the Asus A7N8X, using on board sound, the nForce.
Hmmm.... |

No I´m using an Asus A7v8x-x with Soundmax Ad1980 onboard audio. Perhaps it is the chipset type?

POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Quote:
However, I have found a solution which seems to work now. The problem appears to be not with winamp but with my audio drivers, which started to crash independantly of Winamp; the reason I thought Winamp caused it was because I always have Winamp open ^_^. If you're using the same board as me, you have the Soundstorm onboard audio; first locate the latest drivers, version 4.31, and download them. Then uninstall your old ones, reboot, and install the new ones. I've had no problems for a couple of days. Note that downloading your motherboard's latest drivers will NOT necessarily give you the latest onboard soundcard drivers. |

I solved the problem. I posts this beacuse perhaps people with the same problem could try this.
I uninstalled winamp an re-installed it unchecking the sonic audio ripping option. I have been using the computer for a month that way without crashes. I think it was an incompatibilty problem with the sonic ripping engine and Audio catalyst or Cdex, both of them installed in the pc. Good luck. Bye. |

Unlikely to be a conflict with another ripping app (I've got CDex and EAC installed and don't have any problems), but more than likely it's a conflict with some other burning app, eg. Roxio / EZ CD Creator, or Sonic RecordNow / MyDVD. If any of these apps are installed, you should uncheck "Sonic CD Burning/Ripping" in the Winamp installer (under "Audio File Support"). More info here.
There's no known problems/conflicts with Nero or Windows/WMP CD burning software, but I suspect Roxio to be the problem - because it's generally a proper p.o.s. (though alas, the Sonic engine isn't much better) :/ However, I wouldn't need to guess if only you'd all provided a HijackThis log as I requested in my first reply in this thread. I could've then seen a list of all running processes and startup items, and would've hopefully been able to determine the cause/conflict. Hmm, just noticed that fear|nothing (4th post in thread) says that it also happened with WA 2.91 . . . but there wasn't any Sonic Engine included with 2.91, so it looks like that was a different problem - probably related to bad onboard sound drivers ? :/ |

Yes, you've got some malware in your log, and also some discrepancies.
Are you using the motherboard's onboard audio chip? Or do you have a DMXFire pci sound card? O4 - Startup: Xfire.lnk = C:\Program Files\Xfire\Xfire.exe O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'xfire_lsp_9996.dll' missing XFire.exe is the Control Panel for a DMXFire sound card. Hmm, though both those entries could actually be related to the XFire online gaming tool (sorry, but it can be a bit confusing for us when different program vendors use the same executable filenames). Please go here for the tutorial on what detection/removal tools to install: http://www.help2go.com/article217.html Run LSPFix first. Close all browser & explorer windows and disconnect from the internet. Checkmark "I know what I'm doing" If xfire_lsp_9996.dll is listed under "Keep" (left pane) move it to the "Remove" section (right pane) and click the "Finish" button (bottom right corner). If xfire_lsp_9996.dll is not listed, just click "Finish". If xfire_lsp_9996.dll is related to the XFire online gaming app, then you might need to reinstall said app for it to work properly. Run CWShredder (free standalone version) next. Again, make sure all browser & other windows are closed first. Click the "Fix" button. Reconnect to the internet, but still keep all other windows closed. Install Spybot Search & Destroy Make sure you get the latest detection file updates & immunize your system before running the scan. Fix everything it finds. Finally, run HijackThis again. First, move HijackThis.exe into it's own folder, eg. C:\Program Files\HijackThis (or create a new folder for it on the desktop) Run the scan again. If the following entries still exist, place a checkmark next to them only and click "Fix checked": R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.windowws.cc/sp.htm?id=9 (CoolWebSearch hijack) R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about :blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about :blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = http://www.suprnovaradio.org/ R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000010-6F7D-442C-93E3-4A4827C2E4C8} - (no file) O2 - BHO: ADP UrlCatcher Class - {F4E04583-354E-4076-BE7D-ED6A80FD66DA} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbe.dll (Bargain Buddy scumware) O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe O16 - DPF: {03F998B2-0E00-11D3-A498-00104B6EB52E} - https://components.viewpoint.com/MTSInstallers...jsp?forceLoad=1 O16 - DPF: {FDF6378C-7B5D-4ABF-BA1F-92748305FFAC} (DownloadManagerInstall Control) - http://beta.byteswarm.com/agent/1.3.0.1/DMInstall.cab This service should be disabled via the Services Control Panel (start > run > services.msc) O23 - Service: Crypkey License - Unknown - crypserv.exe (file missing) The following items are useless resource hogs which can all be started manually, if and when required. You can use msconfig to disable them (start > run > msconfig > startup tab > uncheck items) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroCheck] C:\WINDOWS\System32\\NeroCheck.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_05\bin\jusched.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime Reboot Make sure you've got the latest sound drivers Do a clean install of Winamp 5.08c Apply these DirectSound Output tweaks. btw, are you playing HalfLife or CS at the time when this happens? Why is Steam loading at startup? |
