cd recorder - mp3 or cda and 24bit wav?

WinXP, Sp2, Winamp 5.52 Pro.

How do i create an MP3 CD and will winamp record a 24 bit wav file?

Explanation: - I tried to create a cd of 24 bit music and for all but
1 of them, winamp said it couldnt find the decoder (the one that it
did find a decoder for was written in cda format). Which decoder is
winamp looking for?
Questions:
How do i get a 24 bit folder to record as 24 bit wav recording(s)?
How do i get winamp to create an MP3 cd?

Thanks in advance,
savagcl

Winamp does not burn data CDs. Winamp does not record but the Disk Writer output plugin can write files of (almost) any nature. If you want 24-bit output then check the relevant box in Prefs -> Playback. Where exactly are you getting the "Cannot find decoder" error? What feature are you trying to use at the time?

Thanks for the response!

Not trying to make a data disc, just an audio disc.
In Prefs --> Playback I have the following checked:
Allow 24bit
Allow surround sound
Use dither
Force mono is not checked

After I press the "Burn" button, Winamp checks the audio files and gives a popup window stating "Data preparation failed" with the
following message:

"Some files were not prepared due to an error during preparation
To burn disc without these files click 'continue anyway', otherwise click 'cancel'.

The popup window (titled: Winamp Burner - Audio CD) shows 4 columns labeled:
Title Duration Status File

Under the Status column it showed "Can't find decoder" for 16 of the files, 1 file decoder was found.

Looking at the audio files properties (Bit Rate, Audio sample size,
Channels, Audio sample rate, and Audio format), it appears that all the
'failed' files have 6 channels while the 1 file that passed only has 2
channels, perhaps this could be the problem??? The only other
difference i could see was that some files had "PCM" for audio format
and some didn't.

Does this mean that the decoder cannot handle 6 channels?

thanks again,
savagcl

Hummmmm,
Guess it had to be the number of channels. I converted all files to 2 channel, 24bit and each file was prepared correctly...

Used Test mode for the CD Recorder within winamp for above. I'm
guessing that the files would be written as "Wav" files instead of CDA files.....

Live and learn!

Thanks,
savagcl
