Album Name Truncated

Original Tagging Done with MP3 Tagger. The tag reads fine in every other media player, but WINAMP on two different machines (one vista, one xp pro) both truncate the album name. For instance;

*** this is the file name ***
Grateful Dead - Dick's Picks - Volume 11 - Disc 2 - 01 - China Cat Sunflower.mp3

The Tag show's correctly in Windows media player, in XP, in vista, in itunes, and in media monkey. The album is three discs, but only 3 tracks show the right Album name in winamp, and there happens to be one on each disc that shows up. So winamp Album view shows the following;

****winamp shows album as ****
Dick's Picks - Volume 11 - Dis
Dick's Picks - Volume 11 - Disc 1
Dick's Picks - Volume 11 - Disc 2
Dick's Picks - Volume 11 - Disc 3

I have used MP3Tag for thousands of MP3's without running into this problem. Path length does not seem to be the issue. Recently upgraded to WINAMP 5.5

HELP!

Cheers,

Sketchy

Please provide a List Of Plugins

Are you using some 3rd-party mp3 input plugin, eg. in_mp3pro, in_mad, in_mpg123?

If not, then please provide me with a link to a sample file that exhibits the problem. You can PM me the link if you don't want it to be public. Use one of stashbox.org, sendspace.com or mediafire.com to upload (if you don't have your own webspace).

Hmm, the sample file shows the correct info for me.

Can we see the list of plugins, please? (see my first reply)

Are the files in your media library database?
If so, have you tried rt-clicking them and selecting "read metadata on selected items"?

Does the info show correctly for you in the Alt+3 Info Editor, like it does for me?

In your case, it's reading the ID3v1 tag instead of the v2 tag.
The ID3v1 Album field is limited to 30 chars, which is why it shows as truncated.

It's usually due to some 3rd-party mp3 input plugin being present when importing the files into the library that this can happen....

Also note that there's been a few more fixes applied to in_mp3 since the update patch was made available. Some of these involve dealing with cases where there's more than one ID3v2 tag, and workarounds for iTunes/foobar's infamous unsynchronization bug when embedding album art into the ID3v2 tag....

Plugins list looks ok to me.

Have you tried the in_mp3 update patch, as (implicitly) suggested by DJ Egg? Click the link in his reply above.

After installing the patch, try rereading the tags by right-clicking the files > Read metadata on selected items.

Okay, I applied that patch, and restarted Winamp. I tried re-reading the metadata, but it didn't take, so I pulled it from the library and tried to re-add it. And still it does the same thing. I re-re-read the metadata, and still it does not show the right tag.

I'm glad it wasn't an easy fix actually, because that would have ticked me off.

Any other ideas? I appreciate the help!

Cheers,

In addition to this...

Winamp seems to always read it wrong. Under the File info the "Basic Info" tab shows it incorrectly as well. the ID3V1 tab also shows it wrong, and the ID3v2 tag is blank...

Furthermore, it's not reading the Genre which is set to Rock: Jamband

I have another machine running Winamp 5.08, and i imported the same album to it and it read the tags right. Seems like it might be a glitch in 5.5?

DJ Egg is most probably using the in_mp3 in the (internal) 5.51 beta builds, which is even newer than the one provided with the update patch. If your file is working OK for him, than that would indicate that the issue is fixed for the next version.

Another thing, I just added some Phish albums to 5.5 and it read all the tags without any problem. Same setup with multiple discs and the works. So it looks like it's just the dead albums causing the problem for some reason...

Any other ideas out there?
