Well... fuck.

So... the CCFL bulb in my laptop has stopped working, leaving me with a very dark screen (image is still there, just no illumination). Currently, I have one of my ancient (a good 9 years old) 17" CRT's hooked up to the laptop's xvga output, and typing via a small fold-up keyboard...

Now comes the fun of saving ~$200 for a new screen, then figuring out how to open my laptop's screen and putting the new one in.

Until then, no laptop for work, awkward typing and 60 Hz hurts...

I'd check ebay for bulbs. < $30 if u can do a little surgery. Make sure you wear a ground bracelet before you touch the inside of a laptop.

Replacing the CCFL bulb is a bit too much geek work for me, I'd end up screwing it up just trying to get to it, yet alone putting it back together.

well, a friend's friend is a Dell certified tech, and is going to replace the ccfl bulb in my screen for free, all I have to do is buy the bulb ($15+ S&H), and work out a time to meet him at my friends house.

Yay.
