Rate a currently playing song via systray and/or playlist like iTunes does.

currently it's only possible via library which is not very usefull if the library view changes.

Another feature would be grate to import libraries. I don't know how it's saved now, but i guess the paths are absolute. What if i move the library somewhere else, where i can't change the drive letter?

An import or relative file path would be great. And the possiblity to specify the library file path, so that it can be saved directly on the musik drive.

Keep up the great work.

Good build but I agree on these additions. Also auto-refreshing the library when changes are made or after a song has been played would be cool too.

Will there be only two versions available, only lite and pro?

I'd vote for a third release - standard: only those features are available, that you don't have to pay for: therefore no cd ripping/burning/encoding support at all and on the other hand no registration and cd ripping entries in preferences.

the same would appy for the lite installer. only selected small components and no nagging entries in the installer. what would do entering a registration number in the lite version anyway.

the cd ripping entry in preferences without having installed the cd rippin/burning/encoding support in the installer is what I would call a bug.

I can add as many hotkeys as I want - even the weird-arsed 'media' keys at the top of my keyboard can be bound, but not all of them because Windows doesn't recognise them all without the drivers...

On another note, I've noticed some skipping playback in some previously-fine MP3s with RC8

I agree with you, maybe without WMA support.

Hopefully Nullsoft think about a Standard version.

is it possible to map the global shortcut keys so that if you hold the "Next Track" key down, it will skip forward through the track like a CD Player would?

'lastplay' field not working

I tried creating a new view in the Library for top rated songs played in the last week. But the 'lastplay' field isn't working. I'm using proper syntax to write the query and yes, a lot of tracks are already rated. But the view stays empty. I tried creating a view by using just the 'lastplay' field and still the view stays empty.

do i need the plugin in_cdda.dll for cd playback or is that just to extract audio from cds. when i clicked on it it said something about udio extraction but i thought it was just supposed to play cds...what is its specific job i guess is what i want to know. and this brings me to a feature request. when we install winamp can you guys give us access to indepth summaries of what each option does? or is this already around and im just missing it?

Well, I'd like to see something play CDs without extracting the audio from them first .

Yes, in_cdda.dll is used for playing CDs .

I agree. I'm glad they did what they did with WA5, and am using it over Wasabi Player, but the Wasabi Player in the end may still be the savior of us all due to its cross-platform nature.

ive skimmed through this thread, but didnt see anything about it. when you do a search in the ML (not specific), and there are several songs listed in your results. when you click to play a selected file, it loads all of them in your results into the playlist instead of just the one you selected to play.

another tiny bug

In the Query Language Documentation it describes "filedate" but it's actually "filetime" in the query builder (and which works)

Does anybody else find that installing RC8 causes it to crash, consume about 50mb of memory and freeze up other things unless you ctrl alt delete it, when it is installed by itself rather than updating from an older version? I updated from Beta 2 and it worked fine.

Maybe it's me, maybe it's just an issue with the RC8, another question, now Justin is away till the 4th December, will updating Winamp 5 continue?

I just thought I'd point out that the notification box doesn't follow the windows task bar as it probably should. It always appears in the lower right hand cornder of the screen.

Ouch, never thought of that. Seeing how it is a skin feature and not plugin driven I have no idea how they are going to fix that!

Hmmm RC8 still crashes after a few minutes play every time. Just like Beta 2 did. (no matter what I listen to, or what type of skin I use)
Not even enough time to check out the new features :-(
Does anyone have a clue why this happens?
Guess I'm stuck with 2.91 for even longer...

Praise: adds the only thing I really wanted in the media library... a bitrate column. Yay!

Small complaint: the bitrate display in the Modern skin is tiny.

Question: how come playback uses comparitively so much extra processor power in Modern skin mode? Even with things like text scrolling turned off the difference is ~2% >> ~10% on a ~Ghz machine.

*edit*

BTW, a few window display glitches, but I'm guessing they'll iron out, and it isn't as if I switch skins much.

I, like many others, love WA5, but would really like a way to rate the currently playing file. Otherwise, I have to search through my library for the file, make sure that the recording playing matches the recording I'm looking at (I have multiple recordings of the same pieces, so track names aren't always unique), and then rate it. That doesn't make ratings too useful for me...

Other than that, though...this software rocks!

Search through the library?
Just go to "Recently Played"
The currently playing file is at the top of the list.

@DJ Egg:
Okay...that makes a lot of sense...that'll make ratings feasible! Yay!
Still, I'd like not to have to change my library view and be able to rate the currently plyaing song...since I don't usually have "most recently played" up (nor do I usually have the library up at all), it'd be nice to be able to rate it via the main window.

Yeah, well, that's something to look at for 5.01 and beyond.

For now, just be thankful you've got ratings.
A large percentage of the core Winamp users were against it,
but at least they have the option to delete the relevant views from the library.

If it's going to be implemented in the main window or playlist as well,
then there also needs to be an option for those who don't use ratings to disable it.

Remember, many people don't need ratings, because they know that there aren't any crap songs in their playlist, ie. unless it's a 4 or 5 star equivalent, it wouldn't even be in the playlist in the first place.

Now, why can't we get some posts of praise instead?
. . . eg. praises for the new superleet & slinky AVS

Oh, I absolutely am ecstatic that there are ratings now...no doubt to that...I'm really happy with what I've got...just making suggestions to make it a little better.

Users should absolutely be able to turn off ratings, or effectively turn them off by deleting the views etc.

My take on it is pretty simple: I don't have any "bad" songs in my library either, but I have some that I like listening to more than others. Ratings give me the ability to designate those songs easily...

(More than ratings, I love the recently played tracks feature...this way, I won't lose and never play certain tracks in my ML...awesome stuff.)
