I agree with the rest, water2.png looks best. Now try to make it animated..

I can work with the entire picture, you don't have to make it just a circle, in fact it's better if you don't, incase there are a few pixels that would be off or something.. so just make it as you've done so far.. no problem..

Ok, I have made the "animation" in 1 psd, I will save the images as individual PNGs later as well as import them into a strip for plague. Probably later today/tommorow (its 1:00 AM in the morn here)

Foxw, that design is actually pretty cool, however you know that the component area has to be rectangular, so the components will have a pretty huge margin in that water area on each edge...
Oh, and the standardframe cannot have antialiased edges, nor shadows..

I really like the idea of it tho..

Hey.. I made it in about 5 minutes.. so i didn't exactly clean it up, mostly I was talking to Frisbee and he triggered the idea so i rushed off and made that concept so i wouldn't forget.. I can tweak it out when i have more free time to play in adobe.

oh got your email and I think plague that your idea for the DSC could rock, long as we leave some of the advanced freebee's to the Dhd side.

STanger, please explain..

Death Reaper, wrong water...
I believe everyone agreed that water2.png (the slightly darker one, the second of the three you posted) looked best..
As for the animation, right now it pretty much just shimmers somewhat, the water doesn't move, like the ripples in the water stay in the exact same position all the time. We really need better than that, otherwise, it looses the water-look.

Think you could do something about that?

ok Plague what I was trying to convey is having all controls(play, pause, ML and PL and others) morph from say play to ML in time with the water animation .. the ML and PL windows themselves would still be external of course, for example

So you say you need a water animation?

I've attached a small animated .GIF of a water animation loop (shown behind an image of the gate). It's only 160 by 160 pixels at 7 FPS to stay within the forum's attachment size limit, but that should be good enough to convey a general impression. (Consider it a "teaser". ) So what do you think?

If file size is an issue (and when isn't it?), since compression is involved the animation may take up less space if the corners are whited out, leaving only a circular "puddle" in the middle.

nah no need to do the white out.. leave it a square
also.. as i said in the email, try pulling back the light a little bit to defuse it a bit more as i can spot the circular outline

dlichterman: Foxw suggested an improvement to the image (which I emailed this morning) so it's still a work in progress. Besides, I don't know if I'm allowed to upload the new, improved, smooth full-size version (tease) in case it becomes part of the skin.

Death Reaper: Don't feel too bad, it was a valiant attempt. Just to cheer you up, I'll tell you what I'll do. If I get a copy of the beta, I'll post a message here to let you know how cool I think it looks.

MIke.. I need to dig out my setup cd's (just put in a new maind drive), so once i've done that i'll pick up my mail and get back to you.

Dreaper: well.. we already have a wallpaper (I got board) but for the most part we'd prefer no websites or anything please.. that could only upset mgm/birdcage.. and were treading lightly till we have the green light and even then our major bargining chip is they get exclusive release rights to it

He already told you, they're treading lightly. What they're doing isn't 'against MGM' only because they haven't seen it and complained about it. If it's just a lil winamp skin I doubt they'd mind but much more and you'd be pushing it.

Thank you Ziege for explaining it for me.

Long winded basically, if we draw attention to it before it's ready to hand over to them to make them go "oh yeah that'll be great marketing" and give us the green light. We try to publicize it (or if it gets publicity) before then we run a big risk of MGM sending us a Cease and Desist order preventing us from finishing it.

No they don't do it because were against them.. the lawyers do it because they have to to protect thier copyrights (in law if you don't protect them vigerously you run the risk of lossing them)

Ok, I had this post almost typed out and my computer froze...stupid piece of crap.

Ok,
fox, I understood you the first time. I guess I didn't explain myself properly. I can still do the design and not release it, they cannot do anything about that. I can release it only to you guys so you can see whatnot. Then, when MGM gives the green light to go ahead, we can show them the mini-site with all the information and previews of the skin and they can choose to use that on their site. I am sure they would be glad to, because they would probably have to pay more to get a designer to include the skin or possibly just have a download link, whereas they just need to write the code to pop up this window and then edit the file with the url to the file.

So, I hope this clears that up...I read my post again and I think I sounded a bit rude...I am sorry if it came across to you that way as well.
