Now i know what was disturbing me all the time, but that's not your fault:
the ring is to broad for the water-"tunnel" ... but you can't make the gate that big so that it would fit together, and shrinking the ring would delete the detail.

Yes but don't forget there's normally a ramp leading up to the Stargate in the SGC. Also on many worlds, they have steps leading up to said Stargate. You don't normally see the bottom 1/4 of the ring so appearences may change.

maube that smaller waves will make it look better. But the ring indeed looks broad.
I like it the way it is

yes we still sorta need a coder. So far we tentitivly have Plague coding, if he can find the time.

as for the Event Horizen. It's coming... eventually... I have to learn a 3D program to effectivly render it, so ya just gonna have to be patient on that one.

I would try to make the event Horizon my self.
But like you I would have to learn a 3D program. As I now am trying to learn Photoshop it would be a lot to do. Especially because photoshop isn't getting along very well

NOw yes Rontz.. I double checked and yes circumfrance of the center is smaller. But well hey this is a skin.. Trade off between visual and function. as you said, if i sized it right then alot of the details would go Poof.

Okay here's a shot with a better Event Horizen I will stop at using till i can learn enough 3d to make a compariable one
(btw, this is pulled directly from a screen capture, and I tried to size the screen to be compariable (ie so the gate on my monitor was same size roughly as the gate img.)

okay...

First serious (as in 4 hrs worth serious) attempt at a Iris), Yes not animated and Yes Not fully closed (I mis judged).


Oh yeah someone once pointed out that the iris was improbible, I figured out how it works and it is possible (with that center). the ends overlap for stability. *or am I think of another forum conversation )

Except from what you've already said about it, the different parts don't have the same size, which they should and it's not centered in the skin either (probably because of the different sizes of the parts).

Looks great. I believe you are correct in saying that the ends do overlap for stability...

Would a .gif image do the trick do you reckon? One to open iris and one to close it? Is it as simple as that do you think?

For example... Click -> Open Iris (Irisopen.gif) -> Click -> Close Iris (Irisclose.gif)?

Okay.. I went back and spent another 2 hrs redoing the iris to address the problems I had the first time.


Also IG:.. I recall that Gif-89's did not work worth a damn in 3x simply because gif89's don't have imbedded start stop control.. so they start playing on load. so thier's no way to control the animation start n stop.

It would likly come down to either a animated Strip like a cell animation or a insanely coded beice of art by plauge where he codes the animation (which in itself could be as much of a migrane but also Greatly increase the complexity of the code and amount (1 img or 25+lines of code.. hmmm hard choice)

Still not the same sizes tho (all the parts), some are bigger than others, etc..

The animation is piss easy to do in xml, there's a thing called AnimatedLayer, which you can just give the different frames and it'll take care of the rest.. It has start/stop control (thru maki) etc..
No problemo.
Just make the frames as png images (or put them all in one png image, side-by-side.. doesn't matter how really..

Gif is a bad idea in every way possible..
limited to 256 colors, no alpha channel, etc.. Sucks.

Okay Ignoring the bottom Slate... After a additiona 2 hrs I didn't feel like correcting for that *apperently the slats are angled slightly.. it's going to be fun to model that in 3d as that is the next step that these two imgs were building too.

well Since you guys like the textures that well I'll make sure to use these exact ones in the final 3d model'ed product.
