something to avoid: do not open winamp to access your ipod while itunes is open and accessing your ipod
every time I've done this the database has gotten screwed and I have to format the ipod.

Creative Zen Vision:M
Firmware: 1.30.02
Creative Vision:M webpage
Windows: XP Pro, SP2
Working: detected & works except for:
-song ratings in Winamp aren't synced at all (everything has a rating of 1 on the Zen)
-album art, although present in all the ID3v2 tags of all my files, isn't being displayed in the player (not sure what the cause for this is, but when synced with WMP10 the art does show up)

PMP is an _great_ feature, since I'd much rather use WinAmp for everything than some other player just to sync with this.

Creative Zen Sleek
Firmware: 2.01.03
Tech Specs
Windows: XP Home, SP2 (fresh install after format last week)
Working OK

I was able to plug it into my lappy and get it working without having to install any of Creative's drivers. However, initially it wasn't showing up in Winamp, so I rebooted, opened Winamp, there was a ten second freeze, then it started working! Direct playback from Zen to Winamp doesn't work yet tho... :

/I've noticed that when I try to organise my music by size, it instead organises it by artist...

This is a sig of some nature.

Creative Nomad IIc

Device: Creative Nomad IIc
Status: not working.

I'm not entirely surprised in that its 1) an older device no longer for sale or much supported, and 2) doesn't appear to export its filesystem very easily (looking at the card through a card reader shows a file-naming mess).

One other thing, changes I make to the genre don't take effect. (Ex: I highlighted a bunch of songs with the genre "Rock", used CTRL+E to edit them, then changed the genre to "Alternative"). When I went to my mp3 Player, played one of the songs, and noticed that the genre still says "Rock". Anotherwords, genre changes don't work when I change them directly from the player's HD in Winamp. Haven't tested it with other ID3 elements yet.

This is a sig of some nature.

I'm using the Creative Vision:M.

the problem is keeps adding the same songs over and over again. Ive sync'd it once, and that worked out well. After trying to sync again, it keeps adding the same files so now i have duplicates of everything. Is this a bug or is there a way to keep it from duplicating?

What's your Windows OS? (see 2nd post in thread).
Firmware v2.x uses the PlaysForSure interface (pmp_p4s.dll)
but P4S only works on WinXP or higher.

My Zen Micro 5GB works fine with firmware 1.x using pmp_njb interface
(I don't need support for p4s/wma/drm so no need for me to upgrade the firmware).

You should read this thread:

Portable Device Support in Winamp

ml_pmp (portable media player) is the basic media library plugin, wich provides an API.

The API allows the creating of pmp plugins to support other devices.

Winamp is bundled with 3 ml_pmp plugins:

pmp_ipod (Apple Ipod), pmp_njb (Creative) and pmp_p4s (Plays for Sure)

Hi! Here's another mp3 player attempted w/Winamp 5.21:

SanDisk Sansa e250
Firmware: 01.00.12A

Sync is fine but playlists will not sync to the player. Files do but list is not in Playlists section of e250.

I had my iPod (5th gen 30 gig) plugged in and accessed by winamp the other day. Worked fine. I was just playing music from the ipod on my work computer, not transferring anything. Then I closed winamp and used the windows "Safely remove hardware" thing in the system tray to disconnect the ipod. When I tried to have the ipod play some music in the car on the way home it seemed like the database had been FUBAR'd somehow. The only songs I could access were the ones I had put into the on-the-go playlist. When I reconnected the ipod to my home computer winamp now thought the ipod's name was "on the go" and there were only those two songs available.

The other songs are still on the ipod though. Copypod can see/read them just fine.

This is the second time something like this has happened with my ipod on winamp, the first time I thought it was because itunes and winamp were both accessing it at the same time, but this time itunes was not in the equation.

Is there anyway, or any program that can rebuild the ipod DB? because I really don't want to reload all that stuff when it's already on there.

Sorry if I just turned this into a tech support thread, just thought you should know that this has happened a couple times to me now.

State: Not (fully) working:

I can connect an empty player and autofill or synch it. However, Winamp crashes if I connect a full player. I am not able to add files, only fill an empty player. As soon as Winamp detects a full player it crashes. As soon as I remove the player from the USB port, Winamp works fine again.

Update:

I solved the problem: I got hold of upgraded (but not officially released) firmware for the Rio Carbon here:

After installing that the player works flawlessly with Winamp 5.2

So now: State = Working

WORKING!! YAY!!! I can send songs over to the devince just fine by right clicking on a song and using the "send to" sub-menu. Cannot play a song that si on the device in WinAmp, but I'll live.

Plus, any additional comments.
Thank you to the winamp team for saving me from iTunes. I've been a WinAmp fan since the first release of the program back in the day. After being forced to use several inferior programs with my mp3 players of the years, I'm very happy to be able to use WinAmp now.

slightly buggy

Now that I've been using the PMP support for a few days with my Creative Zen Sleek Photo, I must add that the new WinAmp seems a little crashy. Irregular problems with the portable device showing in Media Library. Often takes unplugging and re-pulgging a few times and/or restarting WinAmp. Sometimes crashes when this occurs.

side note:I'm also having occaisional crashes when messing with a lot of ID3 tags.

WinAmp 5.21 with no extra plugins installed. Using modern default skin.

Still better than iTunes.

I am able to browse and sync the player, but I can't any play songs from the player through WinAmp, which is severly disappointing me. If I double click a track, it just says "Playback not supported" or similar (I left the damn dongle at work).

I also have this problem... what's the sync based on? Is it a problem with my ID3 tags or some other bug? As I built my library, I clicked sync 5 times and ended up with 5 of the same track (for about 30/500 tracks).

Device: Palm LifeDrive with Pocket Tunes 3.1.3
Firmware: LifeDrive Update 2.0
Software: PocketTunes 3.1.3
Windows: XP Pro, SP1
Links:

The Pocket Tunes homepage, with a trial version available for download:

Pertinent knowledge-base articles at Normsoft:
http://www.normsoft.com/kb/idx/0/156/article/
http://www.normsoft.com/kb/idx/19/122/article/

The bottom line:

Pocket Tunes's MTP support works with Windows Media Player 10, but not with Winamp.

Symptoms:

Upon loading Pocket Tunes on the Palm, the MTP device is detected correctly by Winamp. However, when syncing starts, Winamp hangs for a full minute before transferring each file in the playlist. Yes, a full minute *for each file*.

The files end up being transferred correctly (or seem to, as I only waited for 3 files), as well as the corresponding playlist. But the 1 minute+ per file is obviously a deal breaker.

These posts second my findings:

Philips HDD6320
Firmware 2.1
Software Philips Device Manager 5.2/Philips device plug-in 3.13

Winamp normally recognizes it and let me sync, add and remove files.
But when i click the "eject" button it just removes the player from the "portables" list and nothing else happens.
While using WMP a window is opened at the end of the sync, like this:

in winamp it doesn't.
And if i simply disconnect the device i can't see the files on it, even if they were copied on the player.

Do you have any hint to make it work?

Re-edit (this is the last time, i hope )

Well, it seems to work when it wants to work.
I've tried with a couple of files and seemingly all gone well, but if i try with a large amount of files (or try to create a playlist on the device, as i did just a moment ago) it doesn't update the list on the player.
I know the two processes used to do this are "lime.exe" and "limealive.exe", and they were running, but i have no way to check if something is going on or not when i eject the player, cause, as i said, no window appears to show anything.
Maybe i just have to wait long enough to let "limes" update it, i don't know.

I think i will try to find a hacked firmware
I'll let you know, bye!

Well, p4s (which i assume is the interface you are using) is a transfer protocol with associated api. Quite why that particular player uses a third party app in the mix too, i couldnt say. But obviously this appears to be an issue with the manufacturer and p4s, than anything else.

Yes, that's a p4s device.
So it's a philps problem, i knew it, but what i can't explain is why WMP does work and winamp does not.
Or better, why can't winamp show that window, even if it's trying to update the files list?

Dell DJ Ditty

Hey, the last build of winamp supported and allowed tranfering of files to the Dell DJ Ditty. The current one that i have (5.22 X86) no longer does. Windows wants to allow it, When i conect the device it asks me which to use. By Default it was for use with Media Player, But i dont really care for them, Have been a Long time Winamp user and dont plan to change.

I really like my Device, and see no reason to go buy an Ipod.

Hope this problem can be cleared up. OR if anyone knows how i could correct the problem myself let me know. ANy help would be nice. I wanna change the files ive got in there, The Bike ride to work is getting boring with the same old beats.

iPod artist sorting problem

As many have alluded to before I hate to turn this into a text support thread but I have an important question.

After upgrading to 5.22 the other day I added tracks to my iPod for the first time in days. Now, when viewing the artist list, the iPod does not ignore the leading "the" on artist names, for example, "The Beatles" is listed under "T" instead of "B" as it always has been, same for the "The Doors" etc. All artists appear this way now.

I really don't think it can be anything other than the winamp plugin that changed this because I haven't done anything to my iPod with any other software. Any help, suggestions, tips, etc would be greatly appreciated.

This is the updated model of the iRiver u10. The u10 works perfectly, but the clix has support for album art. Winamp doesn't transfer the album art, just the music, so the screen displays "No album art available" or something like that. If I want album art (which I do), i have to go through laggy and buggy Windows Media Player. =/
