MIDI Files lower Winamp volume in Windows

Whenever I double click a MIDI file to play it in Winamp, Windows will lower the volume of Winamp to 6% (Winamp it self remains at 100% in the UI). so the program becomes super quiet.

How do I stop this? I see no volume settings in the default MIDI plugin.

The official 5.8 beta extends the problem to MP3 audio, WAV files don't trigger it. In fact if I load a WAV file the volume reverts back to the specified 40%.

Load a WAV = 40% volume
Load an MP3 or Midi = 0% volume

Can change back and forth between file types and the Windows volume mixer will jump between 0 and 40% without needing to close Winamp between file type changes.

Edit: The problem extends to MP3 files if using the new WASAPI output. If using DirectSound, Wave Out or a custom OpenAL plugin than MIDI files will still lower the volume to 6% and it doesn't automatically increase back to 40% if I switch to another file type.

Output plugin testing.

Direct Sound: Doesn't change the Windows Volume Mixer for Winamp unless I play a MIDI file (6% volume).

Nullsoft WASAPI: Changes the Windows Volume Mixer for Winamp when I play MP3 & OGG (0.5% volume), MIDI (6% volume), WAV & FLAC (correct 40% volume). Seemingly all formats supported by 3rd party plugins set volume to a fraction of 1% (0.5%?).

WaveOut: Doesn't change the Windows Volume Mixer for Winamp unless I play a MIDI file (6% volume).

WUMPAS OpenAL: Doesn't change the Windows Volume Mixer for Winamp unless I play a MIDI file (6% volume).

File formats tested with all available output plugins:
WAV
FLAC
MP3
OGG
MID

For Nullsoft WASAPI include the following file formats (all of which set the Windows Volume Mixer volume setting for Winamp to 0.5%):
miniusf
NSF
GBS
minigsf
SPC
ADX
MOD

Windows 10 x64 Pro v1809
MIDI Audio Device = MIDI Mapper (Windows Volume Mixer is not changed when using DirectSound but it lacks support for custom soundfonts)

Changing the MIDI device from Microsoft MIDI Mapper to DirectSound fixes MIDI audio for all Output Plugins, however the DirectSound device doesn't support custom soundfonts (it ignores them and uses the default soundfont Microsoft includes with Windows)...

The other volume issues still exist with WASAPI so I'll just avoid WASAPI for now. I'd like to know why MIDI Mapper is busted though.

i think WASAPI is not a finished item, so u might be stuck until and if they continue to develop it. a search of the forums might shed more light.
