the winshade is looking really good, just brighten it up at the end, add the controll buttons, and add the switch to main, minimize, and close buttons
You really don't have to make it any longer if you don't want to.

I am going to have to stop work for about a week, because my computer is seriously ****ed. I think it's time for a good format and restore. As soon as I am back up and running I will start on the final graphics, so expect to hear more from me then.

It only took me about three hours to completely format, restore, and re-install everything. With work and all, I won't be able to get around to working on it for another couple of days.

I am finakky messing around with the final graphics, and I really want to make the display on the main window transparent like the drawer, but when the drawer is closed I can see it through the main window. I want to know if there is a way to make the drawer "dissapear" when it reaches certian coords?

I've been messing around, and it's not working like I had hoped; so I think I am going to leave the display on the main window solid. Oh well.

I have had little time to keep working on this skin. I finally got some time so I have been trying out some styles to find out what I liked. I haven't found quite what I'm looking for, but I am including two of my favorites, so let me know what you think.

Style 1 is a homage to pyromaniacs everywhere, well, not really.

Style 2 is kind of has an old aluminium look. I think it would look great as a contrast type thing, with inlaid LED type display. You know, a kind of clash between rustic,and a more modern look.

Personally I like style 2 better. Esspecially if you add the LCD display. It'll look very nice.

I like Style2 myself, so I think I am going to mess around with it and find an LCD style that compliments the skin.

I was messing around with style 2 and I came up with this. I know that the bevel on the center piece is too big, but I'll fix it later.

Thats a very good start. Now its time to add some color. I suggest an Indigo or Bluish LCD to best compliment the dark grey color. Some lighting effect on the LCD would be cool too. Just as a few suggestions, its always your call.

coloring is 90% being last on my skins, only thing I do care about is the light... Try to design your skin in grayscale and then color it with the gamma-controls

I have been messing around with the color on an off for most of the day, and nothing is to my liking. I did, however, make another sample shot, this time I hit the mark, I think. I made things rounder, and less angular. Take a look.

Namloos: The grayscale advice is a good one. Infact, I'm doing it on my next skin

I am still messing around with things. I am trying to make the mock-ups in to a workable skin, I think thats the only way I can get the full effect of what colors are going to work best. I also like the idea of making a grayscale skin, I think I'll try it on my next skin. I got to thinking, and I'd like to skin all the menus and such, but don't know how.

Just make your skin, and you'll learn xml while doing it, and you'll know how to do the menu's to

An easy way to make the menu is to copy the menu folder from the default skin and edit the .png's. The default script will kick in and voowala, a cosomized menu.

Unfortunately my POS of a computer is acting up again, so I don't know when I will be able to resume work on this skin. I have another question, in the playlist editor, I want to add the option to sort the playlist by track number instead of name, length, etc. Is this possible?

Possible? Probably...but I wouldn't know how to do that. You'll probably need Maki. Beta 4 might incorporate it. Just ask in the suggestions and wishes forum. If you can't wait that long, try sending a PM to Gonzotek.

I wish you luck young padowong.

It might eventually be possible. Right now, however, there's no way to access the data in the playlist. I "could" write a script that starts each song playing, get's the filename or id3 metadata, loads that into a list, advances to the next song, repeats until all have been played, and return a sorted list....but there's nothing to return the list to...the playlist wouldn't know what to do with it. Not to mention that it would be a horrible script if it had to start each song before it could make a sorted list of them. So, unfortunatly, we have to wait until playlist services are more available to us.

I was away for a while.
But I'm feeling much better now.

I know I kind of dropped off the map for a while, but there has been so much stuff going on over here, I haven't had much time to work on things. I am happy to say that most of the graphics are done, all I have to do is re-do all the XML, and update my drawer script, I might hold back a little while and make a few animated layers, for the LCD displays (it's always better to take your time and do things right, then to rush it and end up with a pile of crap) I figure two weeks at the most, and I will have my first skin done. (I've never made animations before, so it's gonna take some experimentation) I want to thank everyone that helped to bring my first skin to life (I know it's not super spectacular, but hey, it's a skin that works!)

here is a skinshot I took a while ago when I first got it working. I changed the buttons, and that bar on the drawer to better match the rest of the skin, but the overall fell of the skin is the same, any comments would be cool.

Here is an updated skinshot with the button style I chose, I made the buttons complete withe hover, and down images. I am thinking of replacing that static bar on the drawer with an animated layer to add some flare, I think I figured out how to do the whole animated layer thing. I have a few simple graphics thigs to draw (seek bar/button, and volume slider) and I will be finished. I have a problem though, the drawer stopped working, and all I have been doing is replacing the old graphics, oh well, I'll figure it out.

I made the buttons with a blue hover, and I added a corona to add a little flare. I have a question though, is there a way to keep the pause button stay on the downimage when paused? Off topic: and you are never gonna beat the Phantom 96' show Shostacovich, but I do like Cavies, my Fav. is 95' The Planets.

yep, here's how you do it, really really easy...

from
code:

<button
id="Pause"
action="PAUSE"
x="46" y="0"
image="player.button.pause"
downImage="player.button.pause.pressed"
tooltip="Pause"
/>

to
code:

<togglebutton
id="Pause"
action="PAUSE"
x="46" y="0"
image="player.button.pause"
downImage="player.button.pause.pressed"
activeImage="player.button.pause.pressed"
tooltip="Pause"
/>

done!
(taken from build #478 default skin, tested and confirmed working)

edit
there's one problem with this though, if you resume by pressing the playbutton again, it will screw up the whole thing..
for that to work properly, I need to do a tiny script, not hard at all..
I'll do it right away even..

well, here's the update, complete with a working script, as promised..

script
code:

#include <lib/std.mi>

Global Button Pause;

System.onScriptLoaded() {
Group mainnormal = getContainer("Main").getLayout("Normal").getObject("player.normal");
Group playbuttons = mainnormal.getObject("player.normal.playbuttons");
Pause = playbuttons.getObject("Pause");

if (System.getStatus() == -1){
Pause.setActivated(1);
}else{
Pause.setActivated(0);
}
}

System.onPause() {
Pause.setActivated(1);
}

System.onPlay() {
Pause.setActivated(0);
}

System.onStop() {
Pause.setActivated(0);
}

System.onResume() {
Pause.setActivated(0);
}

I also made a small change in the xml, for it to work better..
code:

<button
id="Pause"
action="PAUSE"
x="46" y="0"
image="player.button.pause"
downImage="player.button.pause.pressed"
activeImage="player.button.pause.pressed"
tooltip="Pause"
/>

(I changed back from "togglebutton" to "button")

have fun
