Winamp 2.666 causes general protection faults in in_mp3.dll. The error is generated everytime I try to add a directory to the playlist, or spontaneously while playing a song. I uninstalled winamp and reinstalled it, but the problem was not resolved. Reinstallation either has no effect or removes the error temporarily, but it quickly returns. I have experienced this error on several computers. The only permenent solution I found was to replace the 1.83Mb in_mp3.dll file with a 1.88Mb file from an older version of winamp, but that removes the ID3 version 2 tag support.

Yep, i've got the same problem. It seems to have become worse, now it happens when I scroll down the playlist and the total time gets near 10 hours.

I'm seeing the same bug. It gives the illegal operation when the playlist gets to around 10 hours, or when certain songs start to play, or sometimes just during a song. I think it has to do with the ID3v2 support. The 'certain song' crash could be the new ID3 reader choking on a file with no or an invalid ID4v2. As you scroll down your playlist, it does the same thing, reading through the files to get the correct time and such. It's possible that it chokes on a file you have around 10 hours, or that it always dies at 10 hours because of another bug. As for the random crash during playling, I got no clue..

I have NEVER encountered a bug like this in Winapm before, if it's not fixed in 2.7 I'll get Sonique. I can't just leave my music running without having it hit a song it doesn't like and crash every few hours.

I found that replacing the in_mp3.dll worked really well for me, since I don't categorize my mp3's and am only interested in title/artist, so I don't really need ID3v2 or whatever it is. Thanks for the tip.

I have the same exact problem. Could we get a patch to fix this or fix it in the next version? I love Winamp, but not if it crashes every time.

Well, I see we all have the same problem, the infamous crash in_mp3.dll . . .but no viable solutions yet, well, not without losing functionality.

As for me, I think I shall revert to the prior version until this bug is resolved.

But, hey, we need to give the winamp people a break - after all, winamp *is* free and has been terrific in the past. I mean, we *PAY* money to Microsoft and look how often their products crash.

They will get this bug fixed, I am sure. Until then, just go back to an old version.

as far as i can tell, 2.7 is as stable as 2.65.

i guess it turns out that the devil release really was a devil of a release. =)
