Server Setup

Hi guys. I am trying to set up a server on my website and am running into some installation problems. Everything seemed to be going just fine until I tried to actually listen to the stream. Per the instructions, I edited config file, uploaded the files, set the permissions and started the server via telnet. When I log into the admin CP however, it tells me the server is not up and the CP doesnt give me any options to turn on the server or anything like that. Other then typing ./sc_serv am I supposed to anything else to start the server?

Second question is regarding the playlist. The Readme File says that inorder for me to broadcast, I upload an mp3 file (music.mp3) into my content directory and the link would be http://mywebsite:Port/content/music.pls. When I try this address, I get an error saying invalid resource. When I looked in the CP, the link it gave for listing was http://myIP:Port/listen.pls
I'm just wondering which one is correct. The second one would make more sense because I would have to rename an mp3 to music.mp3 (or whatever I want to call my playlist) in order to stream

Any help on either would be much appreciated although the first one is a bit more important

I think you might be missing an important step - SHOUTcast is generally for broadcasting. To broadcast, you need a source as well.

http://www.allinternetradio.com/shoutcast-source.asp

In your case, your would set the DSP to point to the public IP of your server, not 127.0.0.1 as in the example on that page.

the content directory is not a play list

i think you need to look into sc_trans

Thank you nick. That was exactly what I was missing. I found a nice tutorial at
http://www.linuxforum.com/linux_tutorials/77/1.php
and followed the instructions there to the letter but now I'm running into a new problem. The server was up for about 2 minutes and then it went down. I couldnt figure out why so I telneted back in and restarted the server but this time it didnt come back up. Any clues as to where I went wrong?
This is the address for the stream

make sure the content is all encoded at the same rate when streaming as that can also cause issues, have fun,,

Yes I also found that out the hard way
I do have another question. I cant seem to find a proper manual or anything for the server. How do I go about editing my playlist? Heres what I did. I deleted a song from my list and then I went in via telnet and rebuilt the playlist. Is that all I need to do? I am under the impression that sc_trans_linux needs to be restarted or something but since the server has gone public now, I cant kick people fast enough or keep them off long enough to actually restart the server. Everytime I try, I get a nasty little message trough telnet telling me its trying to establish connection to the host. Does anyone know where I can find basic commands that I can use through telnet to turn the server off and kick everyone or simply restart the server if need be. Just basic control.

without running the risk of sounding a little harsh have a good google around as there isnt any reasonable walkthroughs for sc_trans on offer that i have seen,

if you are looking for a little more flexibility with your content delivery then check some of the links in my sig below, we offer random / schedeled / automatic / manual playlisting options,,, i hope this has all been usefull

yeah google couldn't find any good tutorials either. Most of whats out is regarding how to get the server up and running. Not much in the way of control of it. Any advice for my immediate problem? I just need to know how to rebuild the playlist without distrupting service or if I have to stop the service, do I just kill the server, rebuild the playlist, then start the server again?

okie......I'm back.
Not related to the problems above. I would like to know how I can display my played list or the song that is currently playing on a different page. My website uses html and I use SSI to include things as needed but when I tried to include http://www.vgafix.com:8000/played.html in a shtml page, it gave me an error. Any ideas on how this can be done?
