I've gone through many e-mail services, currently I'm using e247 ( http://www.e247.com ), but I have problems with the service (today, for instance, I can't access the site... not a good thing...), so for a backup, I'm using eprocrastinate, but it only gives me 2mb of space, whereas e247 gives me 25, plus 100mb for sharing (like an internet HD). What I'm wondering is, are there any other free web-based e-mail services that give me a decent amount of space (at least 10mb) that don't give me shit every so often (hotmail)? Thanks!

I use mail.com. They only give 5mb but are almost never down and are always quick.

http://www.mail.com for extreme yumminess. Very nice domains, such as @yourprofession.com, @myself.com, &tc.

http://www.f2s.com for a very inviting bundled up roll of pop3/web mail server, and webhosting. Funtastico.

http://www.cjb.net for web redirection services, and pop3 mail servers.

Those are the only places I know of that give free pop3 access.

another.co.uk is pretty good.. i dont know how much space they give, though.

the best is to find a friend running a server that has a cool domain name... steal from friends like justin.

I agree, Yahoo has great e-mail service, hardly any downtime, but only 6MB which might not fit your needs.

You can also try...

http://www.epimp.com/
http://www.blowmeup.com/

Both of these look the same... don't know how much space you get, but you gotta love the domains

I've used hotmail. Not enough space, and I believe they started doing popup ads (perhaps I'm mistaken). I don't give a shit about virus scanning. I don't get viruses. I've heard some bad things about yahoo sometimes as well. Also, allow me to reiterate that I want at least 10mb space.

I've used pat_sajak_99@yahoo.com wince 1999 (who'dve guessed? ) and it has been very reliable- back when i signed up they only gave you 3MB, then it was 5, then it was 6... so it seems to me Yahoo has continually made their service better.

The only NAZI thing about is the maximum 1MB file transfer limit...
that's where having a friend's domain is real nice for
those uh......... very large files

Xerxes-
Actually, Yahoo allows a maximum of three attached files for a total of 1.5megs...

I've used Yahoo and Hotmail for the past two years, and I haven't had any major problems. I just wish that they allowed more than 6 and 3 megs (respectively) for their services. I use my Yahoo address more, so it's not that big a deal anyway. I just have to keep my inbox clean. Matter o' fact, I haven't checked my Hotmail in about a week. I guess I'd better...... nah.

I also have a Quickdot connection with a friend of mine... Pretty cool, it's almost like a miniature forum. Check it out: http://www.quickdot.com/

I use http://www.mailandnews.com. Supports SSH web-mail, imap, pop3, whatever. It has a 1-800 number you can call and it will read your email to you, and allow you to send voice-mail. Pretty slick 10meg account for free. I've never had any problems, and have been using it for a few years.

I hate e-mail services. Even though I use HOTMAIL, its good for sending messages. If I want to send files, I send through ICQ or post on websites. I didn't want to try yahoo or any other mail service. I even had Road Runner e-mail but it uses outlook express...*shiver*.

Whoa... thanks D! That 800 number e-mail check sounds wicked. And 10megs is fine for me. I'll be checking that one out. Everyone else get off the Yahoo-Hotmail trip, I won't use 'em. Sorry. But I'm still open to other suggestions, as long as they meet my previously-stated requirements.

Yahoo is the best - no question!

It allows you to download your emial to your emial progrma (eg Outlook Express, Eudora, Messenge etc). That's the main reason I use it.

Emial thru a program is a lot faster than web based email. Not only that, you don't have to worry about deleting old mail.

As mentioned above. http://www.another.com / http://www.another.co.uk is great. Loads of domain names to choose from, you can have 20 different domain name addresses. You get 5MB of space.

IMO Hotmail sucks ass. Nothing but trouble, with messages not appearing for days, messages randomly bouncing, etc. It basically started sucking when Microsoft bought it.

I signed up with RocketMail back in '96, and when Yahoo bought them in '99 my account got switched over to Yahoo Mail (kept the exact same email addy though). NEVER had a problem with either.

I would use http://mail.yahoo.com for web-based email, or http://www.softhome.net for free pop3 email (you can only check your mail once every 10 minutes though).

No prob. The 800 # only works well if your email doesn't have a lot of crap in it like several lines of stars for headings. I haven't used the number in a while though because where ever I go there is usually a computer nearby.

Check out subDIMENSION.

Why sign up with THIS freemail service?

This freemail service is unlike all of the popular free mail providers on the internet.* We not only offer true POP3 / IMAP mailboxes that can be used with any of a number of popular email clients, but we also offer webmail.

We offer 10 megabytes of space for your mail.

We ask NO QUESTIONS!* We don't want to know who you are or why you need free email.* We only monitor the system for RESOURCE ABUSE.

You won't get spammed -- outside of any normal spamming from posting on newsgroups, etc.* We are not in the business of list sales.

Well, my e-mail problems are solved. e247 got a makeover, but then what happened? they discontinued e-mail service. Bastards. Fortunately I found something better: http://www.runbox.com - same 100mb space, 10mb attachment limit, plus it has pop3/smtp support, AND it's quicker than greased owl shit. I'd recommend it to everyone, it's wicked.

Hotmail hardly sends it's users anything, they give decent space and they virus scan the mail and shit. Are you saying that you can't put up with deleting a few unwanted mails from them in order to have access to the best e-mail provider around.

I'm stuck with AOL (folks at home won't take anything else). The only thing I appreciate about it is that attachments are unlimited, only problem is unless you put them into file cabinets, AOL will delete mail in the inbox after 30 days. I use Yahoo as primary though, but lately, it's been really crapping out on me. I haven't had a problem with Hotmail either.
