Windows Settings -> Folder Options -> FileTypes
Scroll down for "Winamp playlist file" -> Hi-lite -> Edit
Description = Winamp playlist file
MIME = audio/mpeg
Default ext = .xpl
Action : Play in Winamp = default (if not, hi-lite & click "Set Default")

Checkmark : Always show extension (optional)
UNCHECK : Confirm open after download

Action : Play in Winamp : hi-lite -> Edit
Command line = "C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" /m audio/mpeg

*NOTE: I tried previous recomended settings and none worked. This Command line that I came up with works even under a limited profiler under WIN-NT since you can't mess with the register.

Yeah, but Winamp doesn't even support XPL playlists.
XPL is a secure RealPlayer/Jukebox format (yukk).
However, the /m audio/***** switch sounds interesting.
Where'd ya get that one from?
I'd rather people tried audio/mpegurl or audio/scpls instead . . .
Tho', like ya say, if ya can't edit the Registry in WinNT, then you're pretty much stuck.
It'd be so much easier to change the extension associated with MIME type : audio/mpeg to PLS or M3U instead of the dreaded XPL.
Cheers for the info anyway.
I wonder if this also applies to Win2000 too?

New Solution to PLS Association Problem

xpl is the setting I originally put but now I set it back to m3u and it works fine.
The /m audio/***** i copied from the command line from the Real Player settings. I originally couldn't get the dam thing working for the life of me. It would work with real player though. I currently do not have audio/mpegurl or audio/scpls as options. My only option is mpeg unless I install real player.
Haven't messed around with 2000 yet.

Cool

btw, you aren't limited to just selecting the MIME from the available drop down menu.
You can type your own one in if you want
