We can't reproduce "the menu bar freezes after one use".
Do you mean the Bento or Modern skin menu (File | Play | Options | View | Help)?

UI freezes there would normally be caused by some old incompatible plugin which adds items to the menu, or possibly even by an older version of the skin itself...

If the problem persists after the next public 5.9 release (coming soon)
then please post a new thread in the tech support forum and include an Info Tool report / List of plugins.

I went back to previous release again because new Shoutcast DSP plugin ( 2.4.0) crashes player everyday. I will definitely back to new if plugin will be fixed.

Ok, let us know if it still happens after the next 5.9 update release, coming soon.
I'll publish an updated dsp_sc v2.4.x at the same time
and you'll also be able to use the old 2.3.5 version again.

Hi! It's really the playback of https:// streams working? I tried some of them, and it's not working, as in previous versions

These work for me...
https://streamingp.shoutcast.com/rtl-1025
https://streamingp.shoutcast.com/radio-monaco
https://stream.jewishmusicstream.com:8000/stream

You might need to double-click the first one you try twice.
Or maybe that's just something to do with the local firewall...

Also, it's possible that some sites don't support IE10/11 any more, so streams/podcasts from those sites aren't going to work until we replace the internal browser engine with e.g. Chromium or Mozilla. But under the current schedule, that won't be happening until v5.9.1

That's true, but I found what's happening. They don't work if I open Winamp and try (connecting to host... all URLs). If I wait for 1 minute and try, they work. If I close and open it, the same. I have to wait for at least one minute... No problem with http streams.

Hmm, I get that behaviour on first attempt only, then as soon as I double-click the same playlist entry again (e.g. 2 seconds later, not 1 minute), it starts working - and so do all other https stream URLs that I've already added to the playlist window.

I thought it was just something to do with my firewall, because no-one else reported it...

In my case, if I open Winamp and try a couple of times, it doesn't work. And if I wait for a minute, all of them start working from that moment. If I close Winamp and open it, the same, I need a failed attempt, wait for a minute or so, and after that moment, it's working. Tested in Windows 11 with native firewall (no additional protection).

Winamp upgrade Process

Thank You for everything you are doing to keep Winamp alive. I have been using Winamp since its existence way back. I have had it on my system as the main media player even when it looked like it was dead. Its the only media player that properly loads my huge music directory. 555 Gigs of music. It has just always worked for me.
Keep up the good work. I look forward to the final finished Winamp Project.

Yes

The 24bit/192KhZ sample files from http://www.2l.no/hires/ are playing ok.

Note, screenshot is of latest internal RC2 build, but I assume RC1 also plays them.

Won't load any mp3

Update: I can only play files if I right click on them and choose to open with Winamp. Even tho Winamp is set as my default player, double clicking on Mp3 files won't load the music automatically through Winamp like previous versions...

What's your Windows OS?

What file formats? mp3? other? all?

Were you previously using the JTFE plugin (gen_jumpex.dll) with your previous Winamp (5.8 / 5.6x) installation and had you maybe set "Enqueue & Play" as the default action?

Any other 3rd-party plugins installed which might affect file-handling behaviour?

I had this problem too after I updated from 5.8 to 5.9 RC1. Somehow this changed all file associations. First I had to set Winamp all over again as my default music player.

The icon showed mp3 files as associated to Winamp but it was not recognized as an mp3 file. When you hold the cursor over the file it should say something like "item type: MP3 file".

If it does not you have to do the following:

- Right-click and go to "open with" but DO NOT click on Winamp
- Instead click on "Choose another app"
- From there choose Winamp and make sure "Always use this app to open .mp3 files" is selected

This should correctly associate mp3 files with Winamp again. I had to repeat this for other audio files and playlists as well.

1) MP3

2) I don't recall that I was using any pluggins with the previous version. I tried to click on "Enqueueon double click" in this version but no dice.

3) None that I can think of.

I would like to suggest we have a sticky to remind people to *not* try to upgrade from earlier versions of Winamp but rather, install new. The user can tell the Winamp installer to install to a directory name of their choice as not to overwrite their earlier version of Winamp. However, the user will need to decide via the "Default Apps" in Settings (Win 10/11) which version to associate with common Winamp file extensions and playlist extensions.

Why?
That is abnormal compared to the usual practice, 10 years ago. (or whenever the last official new version was released)

Windows 10 Home, 64 bit, Winamp 5.666, Bento Skin

This is not the final version, it's a Release Candidate and it's experiencing some issues, especially on the Win 7/8.1 side. Users are often warned not to install Beta/RC OS's on their main computer but in a test environment such as a virtual machine or a 2nd, non-production computer. That warning is often issued for beta/RC software as well. Let it install over 5.8 or 5.666 or whatever when it's ready.

I should have added in addition, that what I'm suggesting allows you to easily go back to the earlier version if you experience issues with 5.9 RC1 that prevent you from enjoying the experience.

And using Bento skin there is no drawing vertical scrollbars in Media Library window.
Also some drawing problems with window caption.

Thanks.

We tested the 96 & 192 kHz sample files from http://www.2l.no/hires/

I had a feeling the 352 kHz files would cause problems...
We'll look at it for the next release

(or if it can be fixed e.g. via an updated in_flac.dll, I'll post it here)

Is that a physical Win7 machine, or VM?

I can't reproduce it on our test Win7 x64 VM.

Was it a clean install of 5.9 RC3?

After adding WaveOut Output and manually setting audio device to XMOS USB Audio it plays 352 kHz (I also replicated this error (and solution) in VM). I don't understand why... but it works

Outstanding! Newer versions of plugins (Big Clock, Waveform Seeker) are now installing and running as they should. WASAPI question: Does the included WASAPI plugin work now as-is, or should I seek an alternative like "Not-So-Yasapi?"

Many Thanks to DJ Egg and the entire team.

Not-So-Yasapi loads now in RC3, but it doesn't work for me in any mode (exclusive or shared). I get the following error message "Error connecting : "yasapi_player.c" (953)."

So the Load EQ Presets dialog... we fixed the Oriental characters, but the presets don't actually load :-(

Does anyone know if the presets were loading in RC1 (i.e. the issue was just the Oriental characters)?

Or was it also broken in RC1?

*sigh*

I'm now using Not-So-Yasapi in share mode, which is the default, and it's working properly in Windows 11. I'll try it in exclusive next.

Wow, 5.8 was "released" 4 years ago.
You'd think such an issue would've been reported by now, lol.

I'll add it to the list :-)
