Strange problem with file associations

Alright, I currently have the Winamp file association set for every type of audio file, and when such files are up in a window, they have the proper file type icon. However, here's the problem. When I go to open a file in Winamp, MP3 and WAV files do not automatically come up under "supported file types." To bring these files up, I have to change the drop down selection to "All types." Again, I have every type of audio file set to be associated with Winamp. So what's the problem?

I already did everything described in thread ID 238906 (won't let me link it). Didn't work.

Oh, and I'm using 5.24.

First, older buggy versions of Winamp are not supported in these forums. Upgrade now to the latest and greatest version of Winamp (currently v5.52).

Next, the problem you are having is a Windows limitation...

Problems with 'All Supported Filetypes' in Open File Dialog
(eg. it either shows all extensions, or some supported types are missing)
forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=238906

[EDIT]

Blehh... you edited your post with this as I replied...

OK. So now UPGRADE as I indicated, and THEN apply the "fix" as outlined in that thread.

The URL submitted by user is for spam prevention. However, the moderators can see the link and old timers like Nunzio now how to view the link.

Anyways, here is my original reply that I was going to post before Nunzio got there before me...

Only current versions of Winamp receive tech support. Please update Winamp, the latest version as of this reply is 5.52.

If updating Winamp does not resolve the issue, then please provide Winamp & system specs.

However, I will at least say this. Additional input plug-ins can push the 260 character limit. This has been commonly related to the AdPlug plug-in as shown in the thread "'Open File' woes with winamp"

Regardless, it is still suggested to update to 5.52 as there have been a number of bug and security fixes since 5.24. Additionally there are some new features.

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

I did as you said, and it hasn't fixed. The problem now seems to be that in the "files of type" menu, it lists a bunch of types for codecs I don't even have in my plugins folder. It has stuff like AFC, AST, ADP...despite me de-selecting them as descirbed and not even having some plugins. My mission now is to get rid of unneeded listings from the "files of type" dropdown. How can I eliminate these completely?

And this currently how that one section of my Winamp.ini file looks like:
config_extlist=MP3:ASF:MPG:MPEG:AVI:MID:MIDI:CDA:MP2:MP1:AAC:M4A:MP4:NSV:NSA:OGG:aiff:au:wav:WMA:WMV:ASF:M3U:PLS:B4S:WPL:ASX

Note: There is a likely chance that not all of the above filetypes will be shown
due to an OS limit (260 chars) being reached which will affect you when browsing
for files using the 'All Supported Types' filter in the 'Open files dialog.
The calculated filter string length is: 570 chars

At the very least, how do I do the trick where you make Winamp consider everything a supported file type?

You have several third party input plug-ins for game music.
Rob's ADX Player v1.1 [IN_adx.dll]
Stream Player v0.37 02/23/08 [in_cube.dll]
GYM file Player v0.1.6.4 (x86) [in_gym.dll]
NEZplug v0.9.4.5 (x86) [in_nez.dll]
Alpha-II SPC Player v3.33 (x86) [in_snes.dll]
Those could be contributing to the issue. Try going to the options of the plug-ins and unselect the formast you are not using or try uninstalling the plug-ins.

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.
