where is Rip & Burn?

Hi!

I've just downloaded and installed Winamp v5.623 for Windows (I use XP). I want to rip a music cd but cant find the possibility in the menus.

The help page (winamp.com/help/Main_Page#Ripping_and_Burning_with_Winamp) says:

>>
If you don't see the Rip & Burn node, then go to: Winamp -> Preferences (Ctrl+P) -> Media Library -> Tree Options tab and checkmark "Group CD Drives under the 'Rip & Burn' parent". A numbered list of tracks appear in the track list on the right.
<<

I have the Tree Options tab but here is no Rip & Burn at all!
(only 3 lines + a default 18 Tree item height -- frustrating...)

Whats wrong? How do I convert cd tracks to MP3...!?

Best regards,
Henrik

View Media Library (ALT+L) and on the left, scroll down to your CD player / recorder and 'right click'. You should get a pop-up menu to say 'rip audio cd'.

I am getting zero artist information with Gracenote CDDB as of today's installation. Maybe your information will fill in if it can access Gracenote? Mine does not. I do not want to enter Artist and song names by myself.

Thank you for replying but I see no "cd player/recorder" in the Library (only Local media, Playlists, and an empty Devices).

Is something wrong with this Winamp v.v5.623...!?

sounds more like the feature wasn't installed - best thing is to re-run the Winamp installer and make sure it's selected under the media library section on the components page (cannot remember the exact name / location in the installer). and if that still doesn't help then you'd need to provide a plug-ins list (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....161361#plugins) so that what is / isn't in your Winamp install can be assessed.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.

And you are right, I happened to opt out the cd rip when installing -- right now I'm ripping!

BUT -- the main reason for installing Winamp was to convert my own cd music to MP3 files (for free) and now I notice that only Winamp Pro can convert to MP3!

So I guess I have to look again for a free MP3 converter...?!?
