Why are you asking to do illegal things? Stop it at once.

It's not spam, in most countries its illegal to even listen to police radio let alone re-transmit it. I'm giving you good advice by telling you to not do it.

You can purchase radio scanners at most electronic stores to pick up police and fire radio frequencies, but it IS illegal to program your own radio to transmit on their frequency.

You obviously don't know what the hell your talking about, and you have no idea how you can help me so do us both a favor and stop posting bullshit replies in this thread.

I think your find there's a big difference between recieving and transmitting you cant transmit with a scanner for one
Just cos you can listen in dont make it legall, scanner's cover a large freq spectrum and not all are legall to listen in too even though people do, and as for re-broadcating you have no chance it is without dought Illegal to do so

I have yet to see proof that it is illegal, to the lawyers here =). Police scanners are perfectly legal and have been around for decades. Are you allowed to transmit it on the internet? I don't think there is any law that prohibits it, but I invite anyone to provide proof that it is.

If you're any good at deciphering legal jargon then this may yield some clues.
Or this http://www.panix.com/~clay/scanning/rules.shtml

Bottom line is "It is illegal to disclose information you hear to other persons." which is what you're effectively doing by rebroadcasting what you hear on a police scanner.

There are many counties in various states in the US that provide internet streams of their police channels as a public service. I'm sure if it was OK'd by your local police/fire/EMT it would not be an issue.

Last time I checked this thread was asking how to broadcast emergency radio frequencies on shoutcast, not the legality of broadcasting emergency radio frequencies.. So if you don't know how to merge these two connections to work with shoutcast don't reply.

You need to go to radio shack, and obtain a cable that fits both the scanner's audio output (phones, ect) and your sound card's input (usually 1/8" stereo or mono). That's it...

who cares if its a scanner or a a mic. If you can connected it to LINE IN on your soundcard then you can stream it.

I know a few companies that work in the medical field that take the scanner / radio and connect it to a soundcard and broadcast it to systems below ground since the radios will pick up the signal underground.

Now an application like that sounds legit, but broadcasting a police scanner over the internet may not be.

So far, many people have said they are illegal. This was because they thought it was a Business or Public Safety CB Radio. It is only a Radio Scanner. I have a Uniden UBC3300XLT and it is european based, but I havent been talked to by a Police Officer and they see me with it all the time. There are also many sites than you can request a feed at. You can buy them at your local RadioShack or on eBay. But anyways, I was looking for a way to broadcast a radio scanner myself, but I cannot connect. If anyone can help me out, that would be great. Here's what is in the Connection Tab:

Address: localhost
Port: 8000
Password: kitten13
Encoder: 1

If I have something in that that should be different, please let me know.

localhost? are you kidding me that is YOU only and not any other network device. localhost or 127.0.0.1 is the IP address of every network device internally.

I would suggest right now , you change your password if someone finds your server on you left the password as kitten13 you are going to get your broadcast hijacked!

Dude you need to connect the headset/earbud output to the soundcard LINE input to get the audio.

dumb question? are you even running a shoutcast server? because shoutcast.com is NOT your server. You need to download, install and confiure shoutcast server youself.

"for signals which are NOT "readily accessible to the public"

They are readily accessable to the public and police scanners are legal to both buy and own. It is the reasons all scanners have the cellular frequencies disabled for equipment sold in the USA but not police frequencies.

As far as setting it up to broadcast just buy a 1/8" headphone jack cord with a connection on both ends - one goes into the soundcard and one into the scanner.

those ones that broadcast their scanners on the net probably have the authority to do it. i dont think that the everyday person would legally be able to rebroadcast it..

@Evil Lu.

By the way.
It is perfectly legal to listen to police communications.
As long as you will not abuse the gathered information it is allowed to listen to police frequencies.
