[Edit --> DJ Egg]
All posts in this thread were originally posted in the "Plays 4 Seconds Then Stops" sticky. However, seeing as none of them are related to that particular problem, and were only making it harder for people to find the actual solution, I've split them all from the Sticky into this new thread. Heh :/ [/Edit]

Hey guys...
I need help badly.I've got the 4 seconds prob too and I got to restart my pc every time to hear the 4 seconds.
I've read through what you all have typed above but I do not get anywhere. Can anyone explain to me in simple terms what I've got to do to get my winamp going? Thanks in advance!

For starters, post your HijackThis log.

Download and unzip to a suitable folder,
eg. C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Run it
Click the Scan button
This will now change into a Save Log button.

Now post the hijackthis.log text file here.
Zip it up, or change extension to .txt
and attach it to a new post (c/o Post a Reply button).

Please do not attempt to fix anything with HJT
until we've inspected the log and given you precise instructions.

O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://imgfarm.com/images/nocache/fu...tup1.0.0.6.cab

Funwebproducts is listed by Spybot as hijacker.

You should be able to remove it with the latest definitions update.

Don't know if it's the cause of your problem though.

Hi gaekwad2,
I downloaded your file and made a run for the application. Nothing happens. Then I went to try my winamp and found that it plays more than 4 seconds, but just slightly more and the whole thing stops again

So... let's see...

You downloaded and installed Spybot Search & Destroy,
ran the internal updater (check for updates)
and installed the latest detections,
but when you went to run the scan, nothing happened?
Or did you mean that SpybotSD didn't find any spyware on your system?

You can fix the O16 funwebproducts HJT entry (as pointed out by gaekwad2)
by checkmarking it in HJT, and clicking "fix checked".

Be sure that it is the one and only entry checkmarked before clicking the Fix button.

I don't see any other malware listed in your HJT log.
The only suspect entry is ZingSpooler.exe
which appears to be legit (for uploading images with Sony ImageStation)?

The only other possibility is that there is a new Winhlp32 variant,
but with a different name, masquerading as a legitimate process.
If this was the case, then this would mean that one of the (apparently kosher)
O4 entries in your HJT log is bogus and has been replaced... :/

btw, was that the full HJT log?
It doesn't seem to be complete to me... (eg. no R1 or R0 entries).

Yes, when I click on the .exe file, nothing happened. Is it suppose to be that way??? Anyway, after running that file there is an improvement from 4 seconds to ah... 12 to 16 seconds?
Ok... I have done the fix checked on 016 funwebproducts... hmm... that is the full HJT log. I clicked on 'Save Log', cant be wrong....

"Yes, when I click on the .exe file, nothing happened. Is it suppose to be that way???"

No, it isn't.

For the record, which EXE file are you clicking?
You didn't click the O16 DPF .cab link, did you?

Gaekwad2 told you to download & install Spybot Search & Destroy
Download page | Direct Download

Did you install then run it?

Hmm.. 12 to 16 seconds is now starting to sound like a different problem entirely...
and one that we would need all relevant system specs for
(pc/mobo make model, soundcard, directx version).

Try the DirectSound Output tweaks from here

Oh no... I think I did that. What will happen now?
I am now scanning my pc using the spybot SnD.... my goodness!!! I didnt know that I have so many errors in my pc! some of them they require me to purchse the software before they help me to repair. Is that a problem? Those errors belong to shared programs and add/remove progs.

I just fixed the problems and try out winamp. It works for 1 song, after that I tried to play other songs, nothing happens. I try to scan again and this time there are around 300 errors which require purchasing of the software before it can be fixed.

spybot is completely free. there is no fee to use it. what do you mean that you have have to pay? is that coming from spybot or another program? what is the exact message?

When you take a hand and chop the fingers off... what do u get?

That would be the knub.

I must admit I'm a bit confused.

Spybot S&D is complete freeware, it doesn't require any purchase.

However, if the errors are system internals they can't always be fixed by Spybot.

Post the Spybot report, please.

Go to mode, change it to Advanced.

Select Tools/View Report/Export and attach the saved SpybotSD.Report.txt to your next post.

I've a feeling he's clicked the Registry Mechanic advertisement on MajorGeeks.com
instead of downloading Spybot S&D

Screenshot | Spybot SD Direct Download

Hmm, after this, I think I'll use the fileforum link as from now...

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. Hmmm... I did a scan and after that comes the report for the errors of my pc. The normal errors, they will fix it but the errors from shared drive and deep registry scan, they require me to purchase before they will fix it. I have attached the screen capture.
Have I downloaded the wrong attachment?

Gee... I think all the while I have downloaded the wrong programs... sorry folks!..
I will go and download the REAL Spybot and try out now.

Posts merged.
Yes, you've downloaded everything EXCEPT Spybot S&D.
The screenshot below is of Registry Mechanic. Doh!
And you're really messing up this thread for everyone else.
I'm tempted to split all of your posts from this thread into a new one.

similar problem...

Just bought my friends old computer off of him:
850 MHz, 120 Gig HD, fresh install of Win XP Pro, 386 MB RAM, (i think thats all you need to know).

Installed the winamp 5.03

Open it up, try and listen to an mp3 (which i know works, having listened to it on my old computer) and it plays for about 16 seconds before stopping. I also noticed on my CPU monitor that it jumped to 100% usage. I tried to play the file again, didn't work. Tried playing another mp3 in WMP, didn't work. Computer also ran really slow when Winamp was running, and it wouldn't close unless i did a ctrl-alt-del on it. I tried deleting the winhlp32 files, which weren't corrupted or spyware, ran Ad-aware, only returned 3 hits all of which were cookies. I also recenetly installed new drivers for my soundcard. It could be a soundcard problem, but I just wanted to cover all my bases.

Included is my Hijack This log. Help?

*EDIT*
I don't have winhlp32 running at all.

2nd edit:
would having a onboard soundcard effect this problem at all?

problem sorta fixed

update: problem has been isolated as a soundcard problem. Winamp plays files fine with the onboard soundcard. If anyone has any good drivers for a Aureal Vortex 2 8830 soundcard for Windows XP Professional, I'd be much obliged.

Winamp only plays for 4 seconds

Winamp has been working fine on my computer for a couple weeks, and then it just stoped working, doesnt play any type of file. I looked everywhere for the winhlp32.dll and winhlp32.dll.exe files but they dont seem to be on the computer, so could there be another problem?

If there's no winhlp32.exe in Downloaded Program Files either then it is probably another problem.

Try a clean reinstall, then install the update patch.

If that doesn't help then please post a new topic with your system specs, winamp version, plugins and HiJackThis log (as attachment).

M$ is dumb for using ActiveX anyway. Without AX, spyware would not exist. (Well, not in the way it does today). If you have like ZA pro, or some other web filtering software, I would completely disable ActiveX and any scripting other than JavaScript. Also, the new SpybotS&D has a nice little app called "TeaTimer" that sits in the background, and makes sure that proggys don't add themselves to Run or create BHOs and other entries in the registry. I would highly recommend using this feature, as it prolly would save you a lot of time in scanning your entire PC. - My 2 Cents

am having a very similar probelm with straming radio and TV in that it suddenly started clipping every few seconds, but not buffering, just the sound clipping. I always use adaware 6 everyday, and have a I have removed winamp completely, reinstalled Winamp 5.03 (same version as before) after reading this thread. For 24 hours winamp radio worked again but then suddenly started clipping again today

i'm using XP Home
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66HGz
256 MB Ram
and 576 Kbps connection
I've run HJT and the only files that look like they could be related to winamp are:
C:\Program Files\Winamp\eMusic\eMusicClient.exe
C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe

Any help recieved with a smile

I think it would be better to post the full HijackThis log. Non-winamp related files could also affect Winamp playback.

[edit]
why did you post the same thing twice in the same thread?
posting twice isn't a good idea in general, btw...

Also, you might want to try to increase your buffers:
Prefs > Plug-ins > Input > Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder > tab Streaming
Increase the Data Buffer and the Prebuffer.

Good Winamp plugins by Joonas, DrO and shaneh.
If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.

I'm also having this clipping problem every few seconds with straming radio and TV. I've run all the scans (adaware, HJT) as well as completely removing winamp and plug-ins and performing a clean download and install. The fresh install solved the problem for about 24 hours, but now it's back.

In HJT the only winamp related files I found were:
C:\Program Files\Winamp\eMusic\eMusicClient.exe
C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe

I'm using XP Home, Pentium 4 CPU 2.67GGHz 256MB of RAM

Any help recieved with a smile

First, please move HijackThis.exe out of the Temp dir and into its own proper folder, eg. C:\Program Files\HijackThis

These entries are related to TOPicks malware/hijacker

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {80E81A0E-9741-4FBC-8EE3-3B78C04ADA1D} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ToPicks Starter] C:\Program Files\ToPicks\Bin\Idhost.exe

msztce is something positively evil:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSZTCE] C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSZTCE.EXE

And that's it for the malware.

The only other things I see are a few useless (but safe) cpu-hogging processes which don't need to be loading at startup, eg.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe"

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eMusicClient] C:\Program Files\Winamp\eMusic\eMusicClient.exe

If you don't use the stupid eMusic Trial Offer, then disable or uninstall it.

Apart from all that, make sure you've got all the correct & latest drivers, especially motherboard/chipset/graphics/sound, and try the DirectSound Output tweaks:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....26#post1212926

Also, if you've installed ANY 3rd-party plugins, then try disabling/removing them.
Or maybe a proper clean install is in order...

hi egg, thanks for listening...

C:\WINDOWS\system32\slserv.exe

has been removed.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssoftsrv.exe

is an encryption program, also removed now

what you thought was g3torrent.exe was g3

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSZTCE] C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSZTCE.EXE

is no fun to remove, and i'm still trying

a clean install i've done, inc wiping my plugins (milkdrop)

radio still clipping every few seconds.

this is some bizarre problem, what with starting suddenly, and being resolved for 24 hours with a previous clean install.

goodness knows..are you goodness?

here's mine, downloaded spybot S&D, Adaware and Spyware blaster and ran them all and Winamp doesn't play any sound. it looks like it's playing for like a second but it pauses/stops. another thing, when I shutdown winamp <via the X> it is sill listed under the processes tab of TaskMan but it doesn't show a tray icon nor a taskbar thingy

[edit] just restarted and my musics is working just fine oh well I think I've had this problem once mefore but I can't remember. probably a broke sound driver or someshlick [/edit]

Sorry if I am spamming this thread, but alt+ctrl+del *never worked*? That interrupt is so built-in that you trust it to bring up a real login screen (As in, someone can't fake it). Your windows must be broken to cause this problem, but I'm surprised that it didn't even work when you last had a fresh install. Or perhaps it's broken hardware (My classes are currently teaching me about the horribly-low chip-yield that they have to make up for by extremely difficult testing... some always fall through the cracks).

Comments?

I'm experiancing the stop after 4 sec problem with Internet Radio I did the fresh install, and installed the spyware software. however Spybot keeps freezing during the checks. I included my Hijack log for you guys to look through so I don't delete anything that might be important.

@True Nova

First, move HijackThis.exe into its own folder, eg.
"My Documents\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe"
or "Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe".
This is mainly because HJT creates logs and backup files, and your My Documents folder will get a bit messy if you leave it where it is.

Now run HJT scan again, and this time, checkmark the following two entries and click:
"Fix selected items":

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [updater] C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\wupdater.exe

Delete the "Program Files\Common Files\updater" folder when done (note, you might need to reboot first).

Problem solved, yes?

Hmm, strange. There doesn't seem to be any malware in your log.

I noticed that there's some R1 entries missing from your log. Did you use HJT to fix anything prior to posting the log here?

It's possible that there's either some hidden underlying process causing the problem, or one of the entries in your log is bogus (ie. has been overwritten by a fake/malware version).

First, try running both:
1. Coolwebsearch Smartkiller
2. CWShredder

Unzip both to the same folder, eg. "Program Files\CWShredder".
Make sure all browser and Explorer windows are closed first.

If anything is found and fixed, SpybotSD and AdawareSE should now both run ok without freezing up.

If the problem persists, I suggest you use msconfig
(start > run > msconfig > startup tab)
to disable all startup apps. Then reboot and see if the problem persists.
Re-enable them one by one, rebooting inbetween, until you find the culprit.

The following startup items can safely be disabled in msconfig without affecting the system:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [] C:\WINDOWS\Options\OEMReset.exe /Audit

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Recguard] C:\WINDOWS\SMINST\RECGUARD.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

In case either of SpybotSD or SpywareGuard have been corrupted, I suggest you reinstall them both.

Also, I'm a bit confused by all these startup entries relating to 3 different graphics cards/chips.
There's 3 entries related to an nVidia graphics card and 1 entry related to an Intel onboard chip (O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\System32\igfxtray.exe) and also 1 startup entry for an ATI Video card control panel.

What's your current graphics card? eg. If it's an nVidia Geforce AGP card, then you should disable the onboard graphics and the ATI Control Panel startup entry.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATIPTA] C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe

That really only leaves Trend Micro Internet Security/firewall as a possible cause of the problem... :/

Thanks for the advice I'll try everything you suggested. I used to have a geforce card but switched to ATI, I guess some of the programs didn't get removed when I switched cards. I have installed iTunes and it works properly but I really want to be able to use winamp it is the only music program I'm comfortable with, so I'll do everything I can to save it. I'll get back to you with how everything works out.

Oh well, if you've just got the ATI card installed, keep the 04 [ATIPTA] Control Panel entry enabled, and disable the 3 nVidia entries instead:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit

No comment about iTunes
